I’m super happy to announce that I finally have a new beginner friendly skating tutorial coming soon to my YouTube channel!💕 (Friday 5/26)
I started skating by watching YouTube videos and always wished there were tutorials taught by other adult skaters. I know to some people I’m still considered a beginner skater and to others I’m slightly more advanced. Regardless I wanted to create tutorials that were beginner friendly and so far I’ve received a lot of positive feedback. I’m starting to film more content for YouTube so throughout the summer I’ll have many more tutorials coming!
Backspins had always been a huge struggle for me. Part of it was having skates + blades that were too big. The other part was just not practicing them. A few months ago I started setting aside 5-20 minutes everyday to work on them. I’ve noticed a huge improvement. The new properly sized skates have also helped a lot! I personally think the best way to improve any spin is to set aside a day or two just to figure things out. Film a few attempts to see how it looks and compare that to how it feels. Recently I noticed that in my mind a lot of things feel visually closer than they actually are. Once I figured this out my axel entrance improved and my brackets started turning at the top of my circle more consistently. Same thing can be said for spins! I think filming yourself allows you to see what’s good and what needs improvement.

YE😵💫Back spins are tricky to learn as a beginner and definitely, I definitely remember falling on them when I was learning them. 😅
✨Couple tips to remember:
1. Take a strong forward inside edge on the 3-turn (if you choose to do this entry) normally beginner skaters use very flat entry which from first step you are not in good position to start the spin on the right track.
2. If you are spinning on your right foot, do your very best to stay on your right foot no matter what. Hop around, be silly, make it a game, you can’t touch your left foot on the ground (floor is lava! For the free-foot and slowly increase your time on the that one foot)
3. “Stay tight on your right with all your might!” ( rhyme only works for righties 😆)
4. Arms in a L-position, with left thigh (free leg thigh matching the left arm in front in the beginning with right arm back. (Reverse the idea for lefties)
5. Slight lifting the free-hip helps for few who are dropping their free hip.
6. Try your best to find the sweet spot on the ball of the foot when spinning!
