Kesi gives Daisy raspberries! Here at the Cincinnati Zoo, we’re constantly amazed by the way our bonobo troop cares for each other— especially when it comes to raising little ones. Bonobos practice alloparenting, which means aunties, siblings, and even unrelated members of the group pitch in to help care for babies! This cooperative care strengthens social bonds, eases the burden on moms, and helps young bonobos learn how to be great parents themselves one day.

Lindsay is back to teach you about bonobo and human feet!🦶 Being a Bonobo Caregiver also means educating the younger generations! Lindsay geared this video towards first grade students learning about about “creature features”, and it can be a useful lesson for any students learning about adaptations 📚🐵 Bonobos are our closest living relatives and are helping us reconnect people with the natural world! 🦍🌍🦧

In bonobo society, kindness isn’t optional — it’s the glue that holds the group together. Bonobos spend hours grooming one another, not just to stay clean, but to show care, build trust, and calm tensions. Imagine if we humans chose kindness first, too. 📸 Taken by Frans Lanting at Lola Ya Bonobo where rescued bonobos re-learn these same gentle behaviors before returning to the wild.

Bonobos like Kanzi @ape_initiative are known as the lovers and peacemakers of the primate world, with a different social structure than their close relatives, the chimpanzee. It wasn’t until 1929 that bonobos were recognized as a unique species - prior to that they were known as “pygmy chimpanzees”. #animal #primate #mammal #Kanzi #bonobo #greatape #ape #video #reel #footage #PhotoArk @insidenatgeo

Você sabia? 😃 1. #gorila #gorilla #wildlife #natureza #vidaSelvagem

Clav’s got something important to tell you - 82% of West Africa’s great apes are at risk due to mining for the minerals used in our mobiles, laptops and cameras. This could put species like gorillas, chimpanzees and bonobos in more danger than ever. Luckily though, there’s an easy way we can all help. Simply hold onto your devices for longer and recycle them correctly after they’ve served their use - currently there thought to be over 200 million unused devices that are sitting unused in British homes. Answer Clav’s call today and help us protect the species colobus monkeys like him live alongside in the wild 💪 🐵

The test is simple: two cups, one with a treat hidden, sit in front of a subject. An instructor points to the cup with the treat to see if the subject looks at the correct one. In 2014, researchers found bonobos failed the test while dogs and toddlers succeeded. Children around age 1 begin to understand pointing. Duke anthropologist Brian Hare said that’s when the foundations of language and culture begin to develop. Hare said he found it shocking that dogs passed the pointing test. “There was no evidence until the last decade that dogs were capable of inferential reasoning, absolutely not. So that’s what’s new, that’s what shocking is that of all the species, it’s dogs that are showing a couple of abilities that are really important that allow humans to develop culture and language,” Hare told 60 Minutes.
