SOHow do you stand out as an early-career professional when networking? 🧐
Someone once asked me this after a keynote, and it hit me: we are taught to work hard, but we aren't taught how to be remembered. Strange, right?
According to research cited by @forbes and @linkedin, up to 85% of all jobs are filled through networking. So if you’re just another name on a screen or a face in a crowd, you’re leaving your career to chance. To surpass the crowd, you have to move past "small talk" and focus on being the most intentional person in the room.
3 ways to stand out when networking at events:
📝 Raise your hand to ask a thoughtful question -this shows that you didn’t just hear the speaker, you actually listened to them.
📝 Wear something colourful or a unique accessory to give people something to remember you by - this not only makes you memorable but also makes that follow-up @linkedIn message so much easier to place.
📝 Connect with people (use the 321 rule: talk to 3 people, connect with 2 and follow up with 1) by sharing a relevant article or resource that adds value to them.
Networking should be about human connection and mutual growth, and the best way to stand out is to be authentically human and intentionally helpful.
