Blackstar is an animated TV series produced by Filmation that premiered on CBS on September 12, 1981. The series follows astronaut John Blackstar after his spacecraft travels through a black hole and emerges in an alien galaxy. He ends up stranded on the planet Sagar where he befriends Warlock (a dragon-horse), a shapeshifter named Klone, Mara the Enchantress and a group of locals known as Trobbits. Together they try to stop Overlord from taking over the planet. From “Movie Mouse” (1979, USA) Produced by Don Christensen, Lou Scheimer, and Norm Prescott Animated by Kent Butterworth Storyboarded by Eddie Fitzgerald NOTE: You might be wondering why I posted a clip from Filmation of all studios. I saw a very comprehensive YouTube video by Toon Raider (I definitely recommend their content) about the history of “wild takes” in animation. I learned that TV networks (namely CBS) had specific rules on how takes should be drawn. To say network rules were stringent is a gross understatement. Storyboard artist Eddie Fitzgerald drew these wild poses, getting him in trouble with producers Lou Scheimer and Norm Prescott. They alleged that these poses couldn’t be animated, but animator Kent Butterworth proved them wrong. Keep in mind that this show came out roughly a decade before Ralph Bakshi’s groundbreaking series. Fittingly, both Butterworth and Fitzgerald worked on the latter series. #terrytoons #filmation #cbs #kentbutterworth #eddiefitzgerald

Em 09/09/1967 estreava na rede CBS o desenho "The Flash" (no Brasil rebatizado como 'O Relâmpago'), que mostrava a vida do cientista policial Barry Allen, atingido por um raio e um banho de produtos químicos que lhe conferiram supervelocidade. Para ajudá-lo a combater o crim3, havia o jovem Wally West , o Kid Flash, que nas hqs é seu sobrinho. O Flash podia correr sobre as águas, subir as laterais de prédios, gerar ciclones, vibrar em supervelocidade para atravessar objetos sólidos e até mesmo viajar pelo tempo. O último dos 3 episódios foi ao ar em 29/09/1967. A produção era da Filmation e no Brasil foi exibido pela TVS. Devido ao baixo orçamento, os cenários costumavam ser repetidos e havia pouco movimento (o que não deixa de ser irônico). Uma curiosidade é que o narrador da série no original se chamava Ted Knight, que nas hqs é a identidade secreta do Starman, herói da Sociedade da Justiça.
