SAI have been in contact with the adopters and they've relinquished him to me... poor baby can't catch a break. I was told by the the shelter he initially came In as a stray with an AirTag duct-taped to his collar, but nobody ever came looking for him after two months.
He then got adopted on January 19, but today we found him strolling into Home Depot, alone. Sweet boy can't catch a break 💔 #foster #shelter #rescue #adopt

THIt’s foster care 101 to NOT stuff a child’s items in trash bags. Duffel bags should be on standby at your local DSS and foster care agencies. Please pack it in boxes or storage containers as a last resort but never a trash bag. This a tip for if their items are dropped off and they’re not home at the time. Be respectful of their items, these are their precious things. Depending on how they responded when they first moved in, wash or just switch their clothes to the alternative bag. If they are home and their items are dropped off in a trash bag, offer to wash and fold their items, or to take out and fold the items. They may decline the offer, but at least extend that as an opportunity show that you care about their things. Let’s help these children find some comfort through a very difficult season.
**edited to add: we do not wash their things without permission. Always always ask before washing anything. It’s mentioned in this video because our teens came from disruptions and has requested their clothes be washed. Best practice, if you are unsure, would be to just switch them from a trash bag to a duffel bag while being mindful of their items and making sure everything is kept. **

I haven’t been sharing too much about Mr. Macawley’s aggression toward me, but l’ve been starting to take it personally. His life has been turned upside down multiple times in the last few months. He has been so angry. We seem to have finally turned a corner, and for that l am so grateful.

FOWe need foundational beliefs that determine our understanding of the “best interest” of a child. Here are mine:
-Theological foundation: God created the family, and it is sacred to Him. We should be about the healing & restoration of the family, when at all possible.
-Research based foundation: Across the board, research shows that children do best with biological family. (A lot more on this in my “best interest” highlight.)
-Understanding of safety: Safety is the standard. Poverty, managed mental illness, substance abuse recovery, & different cultures/lifestyles do not equate unsafe parenting.
-Understanding of your role as foster parent: We have to humbly hold our role as foster parent. We may think we understand what’s best, but we haven’t been given the role of worker/lawyer/judge, and we must trust God, even if we don’t trust them.
I know how hard this is—how painful & terrifying it is to watch a child go to a situation you would never choose.
I know what it means to have to fight to hold these foundational beliefs.
But they’re worth fighting for, because the family is worth fighting for.
