In all seriousness, this is exactly why we train tasks in low distraction environments at home before we bring them into public spaces!
This is Denver’s second session of learning how to find an empty chair for his handler and he put all his effort into the task - but imagine if this had been in public?! Total fail.
That’s why I like to train all my skills at home first before generalizing to new locations. 👍😅
I still give him an A+ for effort. Denver approaches life with maximum enthusiasm! 😂

BLAt a theme park we are going to bump into someone. It’s inevitable. Everyone is in awe, not looking where they are going, and just trying to stay with their party. I cannot anticipate how everyone is going to move, especially after I have passed them. We get it. But I still try to keep Mum safe.

We were at Universal islands of adventure in Orlando, Florida this weekend. It was a busy weekend! There were four of us in the group. Well, five if you count me, and I did my best to keep us all together. Dani and Skye led the way, we followed, and Tim did his best to keep us safe.

We had stopped for a moment in a crowd and Mum had just told me to start guiding again. I began forward and from the side a man stepped in front of Mum. You can see he bumps right into her camera. Mum puts her hand against the man’s side so he doesn’t continue to go left and bump into me as he definitely doesn’t see me.
.
The man stops and sternly says, “ do not push me!” (She didn’t, just held her hand firm) Mum responds with “I’m blind.” and that changed his perspective … the man apologized.
.
It took two seconds to diffuse the situation. It doesn’t always happen like this, but it is nice when it does. Understanding matters, especially when tensions can get high in a theme park when it is hot and muggy and as crowded as it was.

You will notice the man continually bumped into Mum. Until she finally told him, “I’m trying to keep up with the blind girl in front of us.” Once he moved, we stayed safe and followed our party.

This interaction and Mum getting bumped was not my fault. Why do you think that is?💙🦮

BLIn case anyone forgot, I am not a robot. Sometimes I do things that aren’t optimal. Mum caught a moment on camera and thought we would share.

As a guide dog it is my job to keep Mum safe getting her from point A to point B, wherever she wants to go. In my defense, I did exactly that in this clip. So there was nothing wrong with my tasking. I did, however, step in between a woman trying to take a picture of her son with their new puppy. But THAT is not what I did wrong either.

Mum always likes to say I love the Littles. I most definitely do. She only saw shadows on the bench, so Mum did not see the child or the puppy. In fact, she didn’t see the puppy until she played back the video. But not only did I see the puppy, I smelled it and I was curious. I decided to walk very close to the bench, which is not unusual for me, but it wasn’t for our safety, it was for my curiosity.

Mum gave me a quick verbal correction to keep moving it along, and quite frankly, I hardly hesitated. Alas, I am a dog. I get curious. I still did my job. But I am in fact NOT a robot.

The people were gracious with us. Mum really appreciated that.

But can we talk about how cute that puppy was?🤗💙🦮

WIWatch what my guide dog does 👀
While guiding through Isle of Berk at @universalorlando , a woman with a stroller cut off our path. Triton immediately saw it & stopped in his tracks to keep me safe.
While a stroller isn’t exactly dangerous, being run into by one isn’t the best feeling in the world 😅 so I’m grateful for Triton’s quick thinking & training.
What I wasn’t expecting was someone else witnessing the event & also have frustrations towards it, let alone me overhearing someone talk about me 🤣
I do not have any issues with the woman crossing with the stroller as that’s why I have triton & crowds do get busy, I just hope people will see this as a sign to be aware of your surroundings, like Triton is ✨
