CH🚨 TRIGGER WARNING: NEEDLES / INJECTIONS 🚨
This was a good injection day.
And if you live with HS, you know how rare and sacred those words can feel.
The flare she was injecting wasn’t active — which makes a world of difference. When a flare is inflamed and angry, injections can be brutal. But today? It was calm. Manageable. And strangely enough, the scar tissue (which is its own complicated reality) sometimes helps dull the intensity. Not always. But sometimes. And I’ll take that win.
Getting my armpits injected every single month is not something I would put on a vision board. It’s not fun. It’s not comfortable. It’s not something you ever really “get used to.”
But it has been helping me manage my HS.
HS is unpredictable. It can flare out of nowhere. It can make you cancel plans. It can make you feel disconnected from your own body. But this treatment — as annoying and clinical and needle-heavy as it is — has helped reduce the severity and frequency of my flares.
That means fewer days in excruciating pain.
Fewer emergency “I can’t move my arm” moments.
More stability. More control. More life.
Chronic illness management is weird. Sometimes the “win” is simply that it didn’t hurt as bad as it could have. Sometimes the win is prevention. Sometimes the win is scar tissue doing something helpful for once.
Today was one of those quiet wins.
If you’re managing HS or any chronic inflammatory condition, I see you. The monthly appointments. The trial-and-error meds. The emotional rollercoaster of “is this flare starting?” It’s exhausting.
But showing up anyway? That’s strength.
Even when it’s in a doctor’s office. Even when it involves needles. Even when it’s in your armpits.
We keep choosing relief. We keep choosing care. We keep choosing ourselves. 🤍
