🎉 Congratulations to Jeremy Frey (Passamaquoddy), 2012 & 2013 ABL Fellow, on being named a 2025 MacArthur Fellow! A master basketweaver from Maine, Jeremy continues a long tradition of Wabanaki artistry, creating ash fancy baskets that have earned national acclaim. Frey is descended from a long line of Wabanaki basket makers, and his art is imbued with the value systems, environmental stewardship, and history of traditional Wabanaki ash and sweetgrass basketry. Through experimentation with color, form, and materials, he forges a singular aesthetic that blurs the boundaries between craft, design, and contemporary art. Congratulations to Jeremy Frey, who has just been named a 2025 MacArthur Fellow! It has been an honor to bring the artist’s first major retrospective to Connecticut this year and to see how deeply our community connected with the exhibition.   @JeremyFreyBaskets is a seventh-generation Passamaquoddy basket maker and one of the most celebrated Indigenous weavers in the country. He pushes the creative limits of the medium, producing conceptually ambitious and meticulously crafted baskets that reflect not only his technical skill as a weaver but also his profound ecological knowledge of, and connection to, the Passamaquoddy ancestral territory of the Northeastern Woodlands.   Plan your visit today to see “Jeremy Frey: Woven.” This groundbreaking exhibition, organized by @PortlandMuseum, is on view at the Bruce Museum through October 26.    🎥 : MacArthur Foundation   #MacFellow
