KETurns out I wasn’t depressed, I was responding to a situation that kept me in survival mode.
I thought something was wrong with me because I felt heavy all the time, even though I was doing everything I was told to do.
I prayed more, forgave more, tried harder, lowered expectations, and kept believing that staying was the most faithful and only option.
Whether I tried harder, or tried to surrender more, either way my hope kept dwindling. And the matters to God. “Come to me, all who are weary and burdened”.
He cares for the birds and the flowers, how much more does he care for YOU.
Scripture never calls constant fear, confusion, or emotional distress the fruit of obedience.
When I finally went back to the Bible for myself, not just the verses people quoted at me, I saw something different.
I saw that covenant requires two willing people, and God does not force repentance or change.
I saw that God cares about truth, fruit, and faithfulness, not just endurance and blind loyalty. (That ventures into legalism btw)
And I saw that there are times in Scripture when separation and divorce are acknowledged, permitted, and even initiated by God in response to ongoing unfaithfulness.
That doesn’t make divorce easy, painless, or something anyone wants.
It means staying is not always the holier choice.
That permission isn’t rebellion, or lack of faith, or giving up.
It’s discernment- which we never imagined we would need in this situation but here we are.
If you’re questioning yourself right now, that doesn’t mean you’re weak or sinful.
It might mean God is inviting you into clarity, not condemnation.
You don’t have to decide today.
But you are allowed to seek truth, and you’re not alone.
