Or they’ll go from no speed sessions to a weekly tempo and interval session, pick up an injury and say they’re getting too old to run fast. It’s not because you’re getting old! You’re doing silly aggressive things in your training and you’re blaming your age. And if you’re over 40 and not lifting heavy, change this in 2026! THIS SEASON ASKS FOR A DIFFERENT APPROACH. 40 didn’t phase me, I was excited for the decade, but I’ll admit when perimenopause symptoms started I was caught off guard even with ALL the knowledge I have! 👉I’m grateful for the way it’s refocused my training. 👉Given me insights to better help masters runners. 👉I genuinely want everyone to know that it’s not game over and yes, it may look different (for you than a friend even!), but so much is still possible. 👊Cheers to being the runners who are going to be part of the first generation of “70+ only” races because so many of us will still be running! 🫶Share it. This workout was all by perceived effort with a few HR check-ins, and it hurt 😅. At 220 lbs with 16.5” arms and a 46” chest (not exactly a light runner’s build)… Today’s treadmill run: 📏 4 miles total ⏱ 1.5 miles at 6-minute pace 🔁 6 × ¼-mile intervals 🎂 Nearly 54 years old ✅ Pain free!🙌 Here’s what most people miss… If a child wants to play baseball, tennis, or golf, we get them lessons. If they want to run cross country? We just say, “Go run.” Then we repeat the same mistake as adults. We decide to start running— No coaching. No focus on mechanics. Just pounding the pavement. That’s a recipe for injury. At 30, my knees hurt so bad I could barely run a mile without pain. I assumed running just wasn’t for me. I had “bad knees” I thought. Two things changed everything: 1️⃣ Learning proper running mechanics 2️⃣ Supporting joint health and inflammation correctly Now, in my mid-50s, I run 20–30 miles a week, six days a week—pain-free. Running didn’t ruin my joints. Running the wrong way almost did.
