When drawing basic mechs it’s important that you think of this 👇
1.) Big Shapes First - Deconstructing complex mechs into simple shapes will allow you to see the proportions first. This part is crucial to understanding the basic structure of the mech without focusing on the details.
2.) Contours - You don’t need to draw extra complicated perspective grids if you’re not going for realistic designs, especially when you’re just starting out. Having an understanding of basic form and structure is key to creating a believable design. The perspective can always be fixed later if you want to take the design further.
3.) Details - Once your forms are in place, you can now use your knowledge of the surface to add your details. Make sure that your details follow the same direction as the contours you placed earlier. Adding a drop shadow can help ground your drawing as well.
