CADuring National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, we’re proud to recognize the incredible support behind our team’s wellness.
Thanks to the generosity of CHP Area Offices across Border Division, the California Highway Patrol Border Communications Center received nearly $4,000 in donations. This allowed @chpbordercommcenter to create a dedicated fitness & wellness room for our dispatchers and operators.
With these funds, we’ve added a brand-new treadmill, rowing machine, and stationary bike, investing in both the physical and mental well-being of the professionals who are always there when it matters most.
We are truly grateful for the support and recognition of our personnel. Your contributions are making a lasting impact. 💛

ANAs we celebrate National Public Safety Telecommunicator Week, we’re proud to spotlight Erika and her commitment to serving our community. One of the many dedicated voices we’re celebrating during National Public Safety Telecommunicator Week.
Her advice to those considering the job: “It isn’t an easy job at all, but the reward of helping someone on one of the worst days of their life is a great feeling. This job teaches you a lot about life and makes you a better person overall.”
Erika also shared a side of dispatching most people don’t realize: “We rarely get the end to the story. We’re the first to talk to someone in distress, help them through the emergency, then disconnect and move to the next call. We always wonder what happened.”
This week, and every week, we thank the ones who answer the call. To Erika and all our dispatchers, thank you for being the voice of calm in the chaos.

Mientras celebramos la Semana Nacional del Telecomunicador de Seguridad Pública, nos enorgullece destacar a Erika y su compromiso con el servicio a nuestra comunidad. Una de las muchas voces dedicadas que estamos reconociendo esta semana.
Su consejo para quienes están considerando este trabajo:
“No es un trabajo fácil en lo absoluto, pero la recompensa de ayudar a alguien en uno de los peores días de su vida es una gran satisfacción. Este trabajo te enseña mucho sobre la vida y te convierte en una mejor persona.”
Erika también compartió un aspecto del despacho que la mayoría de las personas no conoce: “Rara vez conocemos el final de la historia. Somos los primeros en hablar con alguien en crisis, los ayudamos durante la emergencia, y luego colgamos para pasar a la siguiente llamada. Siempre nos quedamos preguntando qué sucedió.”

WPRECOGNIZING 911 DISPATCHERS | Inside a dimly lit room at the Riviera Beach Police Department (RBPD), phones ring back-to-back as dispatchers answer calls that can mean the difference between life and death.
CBS12 News reporter Katie Bente was given rare access to the department’s 911 communications center during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, which recognizes the professionals who answer emergency calls and coordinate response efforts.
National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week is observed each April to recognize dispatchers — often called the “first first responders” — who answer emergency calls and coordinate police, fire, and medical response.
Officials say the center handles more than 100,000 calls each year, with roughly half classified as emergencies.
At any given time, only a handful of telecommunicators are on duty — taking calls, dispatching officers, and entering information into a computer-aided dispatch system, known as CAD, which tracks incidents and resources in real time.
“The most important thing for you to do is to remain calm, and you get all the information that you need to get,” said Tacarra Stubbs, a communications operator who has worked at the department for four years.
