Some classic Buffalo Springfield featuring a 23 year old Neil Young on lead vocals, 1967 🇨🇦 🍁 Formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1966, just months prior to the release of their debut self titled album “Buffalo Springfield”, the band brought together a unique mix of Canadian and American talent. The group consisted of Canadian musicians Neil Young, Bruce Palmer, and Dewey Martin, alongside Americans Stephen Stills and Richie Furay. Although active for only roughly two years and releasing just three albums, the band’s legacy remains one of the most iconic of the mid to late ’60s counterculture scene. While all members found success following the group’s split, Young and Stills emerged as the band’s breakout stars. The bassist seen with his back toward the camera is in fact not Bruce Palmer, but Dickie Davis. Palmer had been arrested for drug possession earlier that day, and the group opted to have Davis—a roadie—sit in for the performance, keeping his face hidden from the camera. • Band members faced numerous Drug charges resulting in a few lineup changes, this would contribute to the groups decision to dissolve the band in 1968 • The name “Buffalo Springfield” came at Neil’s suggestion, after noticing a Steam-Roller manufactured by “The Buffalo Springfield company” • Mr. Soul was heavily influenced by The Rolling Stones “Satisfaction” with the track sharing a very similar riff to that of Keith Richard’s 🎸: Buffalo Springfield 💿: Buffalo Springfield again, 1967 🎥: Hollywood Palace, 1967 📍: Los Angeles California #neilyoung #buffalospringfield #canadian #canada cancon

Neil Young’s Old Man is rooted in a reflective and deeply personal story about perspective, aging, and the unexpected similarities between generations, emerging in 1972 during the creation of Harvest in Nashville. The song was inspired by a real encounter Young had with an older caretaker on his ranch in Northern California, where he found himself comparing his own life as a young, successful musician to that of the man who had lived a much longer, simpler life. Through this interaction, Young began to realize that despite differences in age and circumstance, they shared the same emotional core—uncertainty, loneliness, and the search for meaning. Musically, the track is built around gentle acoustic guitar and subtle instrumentation, allowing Young’s fragile, introspective vocal delivery to carry the weight of the message. The lyrics move between observation and self-reflection, blurring the line between the “old man” and the narrator, suggesting that time doesn’t fundamentally change who we are inside. It’s this blend of personal inspiration, lyrical honesty, and understated arrangement that cements “Old Man” as one of the most iconic and definitive songs about aging, identity, and human connection. 🎂Neil Young, born this day in 1945, turns 80 today! Pic 1 was taken in June of 1970 in Greenwich Village with Graham Nash. The image would later be used for the cover of his album After The Gold Rush (pic 2). 📸 by Joel Bernstein. Pic 4 & 6 (taken by Williams Mitchell I believe) is of Neil Young inside the Voice-O-Graph vinyl recording booth at Third Man Records in Nashville, TN for his album A Letter Home which was recorded inside the Voice-O-Graphic in 2014. The album consists entirely of covers. Here’s what Joel had to say about the After The Gold Rush Image on Snapgalleries.com: “The photo was not ‘a mistake.’ I saw the small, old woman coming towards us down the sidewalk, was intrigued, and wanted to catch her passing Neil. The mistake, to me, was that I had in my haste focused the lens just past the two figures, closer to the fence than to Neil’s face. That was the original reason why I made a small-sized print and solarized it; to help with the apparent sharpness. But the solarization in this case added a somewhat spooky dimension to the image, which Neil took to immediately.” And yes, I know Harvest Moon isn’t on either of these albums. It’s one of my favorite songs though and we’re celebrating the man today. HBD Neil 🎂 #neilyoung @neilyoung @neilyoungarchives #grahamnash @officialgrahamnash @snapgalleries #afterthegoldrush

Over 50 years later the song remains a staple of Neil young’s catalog 🇨🇦 🍁 Written by Neil Young in the days following the Kent State massacre on May 4, 1970, “Ohio” was quickly brought to David Crosby, Graham Nash, and Stephen Stills. The band recorded the track live off the floor in just a few takes at Record Plant in California. Released as a single only weeks later, the group rushed the release of the song “Ohio” delaying the previously recorded singles from their album Déjà Vu, which had been released just months earlier. Despite already having a hit on the charts with “Teach Your Children” from Déjà Vu, the success of “Ohio” further cemented Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young as one of the most popular groups of 1970. Joining Crosby, Stills & Nash in the late summer of 1969, Neil Young expanded the band’s harmonies and songwriting depth while adding a sharper folk-rock edge. Together, the group released three studio albums with Young between 1969 and 1999. • Young said about the massacre “it’s probably the biggest lesson ever learned at an American place of learning” • Rolling Stone ranked it among the top 10 protest anthems of all time • David Crosby allegedly cried in the studio following the songs first take due to the songs tragic content 🎸: Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young 💿: Released as a single in 1970 🎥: Golden Gate Park, 1991 📌: Los Angeles, California #neilyoung #crosbystillsnashandyoung #ohio #canada

BREAKING: Legendary rocker Neil Young sounds the alarm: “Wake up people!” as Trump “destroys America bit by bit.” Music legend Neil Young may have been born in Canada, but he’s mostly lived in the United States since the 1960s — and finally gained American citizenship in 2020. Despite not being born here, Young has always cared deeply about this country and hasn’t been shy about expressing his political opinions when the circumstances warrant. When the Ohio National Guard massacred nine unarmed students at a rally protesting U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War at Kent State University in 1970, Young responded by writing the classic Crosby, Still, Nash, & Young song “Ohio” and rushing to record and release it within weeks of the slaughter it condemned. In the wake of the shooting earlier this week in Minneapolis of an unarmed middle-aged mother by a reprehensible ICE agent, Neil Young is outraged by yet another act of senseless political violence, and he isn’t mincing words. In a blistering editorial posted to his website, Young looks out his window and sees what he calls “the biggest mess I’ve ever witnessed, right here in the United States, this great country I have believed in for decades.” His verdict is unmistakable: “Wake up people! Today The USA is a disaster.” Young lays the blame squarely at Donald Trump’s feet, writing that Trump is “destroying America bit by bit with his staff of wannabes, people with no experience or talent,” and an administration held together by loyalty to “Trump falseness” rather than competence, conscience, or truth. He doesn’t spare congressional Republicans either, calling it “a Congress full of Republicans acting like idiots with no conscience.” “Yes,” Young writes bluntly, “He has divided us.” And then the question that hangs over the entire piece: “How did we elect these creeps who have no spine, no values, no conscience, no way to save the USA.”

Did you know …. 🎸 1. The “Old Man” was a real guy. Neil wrote the song about the caretaker of his newly purchased Broken Arrow Ranch, a man named Louis Avila. Avila gave Neil a tour in an old blue Jeep and asked how a kid could afford such a place. Neil replied: “Just lucky, Louis. Just real lucky.” 🏡 2. Neil bought the 140‑acre Broken Arrow Ranch in 1970 at age 25 for $350k (about $2.9M in today’s money). He still lives there. 🎤 3. James Taylor played a six‑string banjo on the track and Linda Ronstadt sang harmonies 🌙 4. The recording session started at midnight and ended at dawn. Linda Ronstadt said they recorded “Old Man” and “Heart of Gold” in a late‑night session that ended at sunrise, walking out into a snowstorm. 🥁 5. Neil made the drummer sit on his right hand. Drummer Kenny Buttrey kept wanting to use the hi‑hat. Neil hated it. So he told him: “Play with only your left hand.” Buttrey literally sat on his right hand to stop himself. 📺 6. “Old Man” was recorded the same day as “Heart of Gold” Both songs were cut on February 6, 1971 in Nashville with a group of top studio musicians. 📈 7. It became Neil’s second‑biggest solo hit reaching 31 on the Billboard Hot 100 and no. 4 in Canada. Only “Heart of Gold” charted higher. 🎬 8. Neil introduced the song with the ranch story on the BBC in 1971. He performed it live on a BBC broadcast just weeks after writing it, telling the same “Just lucky, Louis” story. ❤️ 9. The song is partly about Neil’s divorce. At 25, Neil had just divorced his first wife. The line “I’m a lot like you” reflects his own longing for stability and love — mirroring Louis and his wife Clara. #neilyoung #jamestylor #lindaronstadt #classicrock #classicrockmusic

BREAKING: Legendary rocker Neil Young gifts his entire music catalog to Greenland in an act of “peace and love” while thumbing his nose at Trump. Neil Young just delivered one of the most devastatingly subversive takedowns of Donald Trump yet — and he did it with music. The legendary rocker announced he is giving the people of Greenland free access to his entire music catalog, a move aimed squarely at pushing back against Trump’s repeated threats to seize the territory. “This is an offer of Peace and Love,” Young wrote on his website, addressing Greenlanders directly. “I hope my music and music films will ease some of the unwarranted stress and threats you are experiencing from our unpopular and hopefully temporary government.” Boom. The 80-year-old Young didn’t stop there. He told the people of Greenland they can enjoy all the music he’s made over the last 62 years, “in its highest quality,” for free — and renew it indefinitely, as long as they remain in Greenland. “All the music I have made during the last 62 years is yours to hear,” he wrote. “LOVE EARTH.” Only residents with a Greenland country code can access the archive — a pointed reminder that this is a gift of solidarity, not a publicity stunt. The move comes as Trump continues to float imperial-style rhetoric about Greenland, treating sovereign nations like Monopoly properties. And it follows Young’s very public feud with Amazon and billionaire Trump benefactor Jeff Bezos, whom Young accused of “selling out America.” Bezos, of course, has showered Trump with money — from funding a $40 million vanity documentary on Melania Trump to a $1 million donation to Trump’s inaugural fund. Young wants nothing to do with any of Bezos’ businesses at this point. “Amazon is owned by Jeff Bezos, a billionaire backer of the president,” Young wrote. “The president’s international policies and his support of ICE make it impossible for me to ignore his actions.” Young urged fans to boycott Amazon, buy music locally, and support independent businesses — the opposite of Trump’s billionaire-first worldview. And after the killing of Minneapolis mother and poet Renee Good by an ICE agent, Young’s words turned even
