Behind every activity is a meaningful goal! 💪 This OT Month, we’re pulling back the curtain to show what occupational therapy really looks like. It starts with targeted activities…and leads to something bigger: 🎹 Playing the piano again 🪮 Brushing your hair independently 🚿 Showering with confidence 🥣 Eating on your own 🏡 Reaching what you need in your home At FOX Rehabilitation, our OTs don’t just treat tasks, they help older adults reclaim their independence and live life on their terms. And that’s what it’s all about! 🧡 Thank you @amanda_cable1, OTD, OTR/L for sharing a glimpse into what you do! 😊 #OTMonth #OccupationalTherapy #OTLife #OccupationalTherapist #OTStudent

Happy OT month! Today’s letter is I is for individualized Intervention. Every child, especially those with disabilities, presents with a unique set of needs and abilities. This individuality necessitates a tailored therapeutic approach that addresses specific challenges while fostering strengths. Customized plans, often referred to as IEPs or IFSPs are crucial in ensuring that children receive the most effective therapeutic interventions possible. As OTs we use various treatment modalities to meet children where they are, and arts and crafts are a fun yet effective strategy. A little spring craft for those rainy days ahead 🐛🌧️ With April in full swing, this inchworm activity is a fun way to bring a bit of movement indoors. It starts with folding, cutting, unfolding, and decorating- then it comes to life with a simple breath through a straw as it inches forward. Each step builds important OT skills: ✂️ Cutting and folding builds hand strength, coordination, and control 🤝 Using both hands together supports bilateral coordination 👀 Lining up folds and cuts targets visual-motor integration 🧠 Following each step works on motor planning and sequencing ✍️ Drawing details adds fine motor precision and functional writing grasp 💨 Blowing through the straw introduces oral motor control and breath grading These foundational skills support everyday tasks like handwriting, cutting, managing fasteners, tool use, and overall coordination in the classroom. A perfect activity with minimal materials for those rainy spring days 🌸🐛✨ #OccupationalTherapy #PediatricOT #stepstosuccessot #abcofot #otmonth

Happy occupational therapy month! 🫶🏼😊 Occupational therapy is about helping people return to the life that feels like themselves again! It’s in the small, meaningful moments—buttoning a shirt after surgery, holding a grandchild with steady hands, writing your name clearly, or cooking a favorite meal without fear. Occupational therapists look beyond a diagnosis and see the person: their routines, their roles, and the little things that bring them joy. With patience and creativity, OT meets people where they are and gently guides them forward—rebuilding strength, confidence, and independence one step at a time. It’s not just therapy; it’s about restoring dignity, purpose, and the ability to participate in the moments that make life feel full again!💕 . . . #occupationaltherapy #occupationaltherapist #otlife #occupationaltherapystudent #OT

In honor of occupational therapy awareness month, I am going to post some videos to help explain some of the things that occupational therapists do, because I get asked A LOT! Supports like the ones in the video are meant to be strategies to help students build awareness and compensate for missing skills. In the therapy room, to support this student, we work on skill building, through bottom up mechanisms. In both cases, the focus is on engagement in the occupation of being a student. Sometimes the occupation is the goal (e.g. writing his name, having improved postural strength and balance to support table based work), and sometimes the occupation is the means (e.g. using gross and sensory motor play to build postural control skills, sequencing and awareness, using coloring and fine motor games to build skills for writing). #occupationaltherapy #occupationaltherapist #otmonth

April is OT month, and we want to say a huge “THANK YOU” to all of the OTs out here who are truly changing lives. 💛🥰 To celebrate, we’re shouting out some of our favorite OT-owned businesses… and the tools that they’ve created! ✏️ 1. @chomp_champ_chewy 2. @legiliner 3. @functionalhand 4. @thestressdetective2 5. @blackbackhandwriting Because what others see as “bad behavior”…OTs see as communication. We see sensory needs. We see developing skills. We see opportunities for support. And with the right tools… everything can change. These products aren’t just helpful, they’re helping children GROW while feeling successful, understood, and confident every single day. 💛 We’re so grateful to be part of a community of amazing OTs thar shows up for kids in this way. 🫙💪 Twisting Bottle Caps in Theraputty Build functional hand strength and coordination by simulating opening a bottle using theraputty and a bottle cap! This simple, effective activity mimics a common daily task while targeting key upper extremity skills. 🧠 Skills Addressed: • Grip & pinch strength • Wrist stability & forearm rotation (supination/pronation) • Bilateral coordination • Fine motor control • Endurance for functional tasks Activity Setup: Press a bottle cap into theraputty so it’s partially embedded. Have your patient grasp and twist the cap as if opening a bottle 🫙 Repeat multiple times or alternate hands for increased challenge. ✨Join my subscription page for ways to upgrade and downgrade this activity and for a documentation example✨ #OccupationalTherapy #OTMonth #HandStrength #FineMotorSkills #ADLs

Occupational therapy isn’t just about fixing problems, it’s about recognizing and nurturing the unique potential in every individual. OTs see beyond challenges, empower growth, and create possibilities where others may see limits. This month (and every month), we celebrate all the ways OTs help others achieve function, freedom, and fulfillment because every person deserves the chance to thrive! What’s your favorite occupational therapy superpower? Drop it in the comments below! ✨✨Dear Pediatric Practitioner ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️ There’s a moment in therapy that people outside of this field might miss. It’s the moment when a child who once refused the swing finally climbs on. The moment when a child who struggled to sit for even 10 seconds stays with an activity just a little longer. The moment when a parent looks at you and says, “I’ve never seen them do that before.” To someone else, it may look small. But to you… it’s everything. Because you know what it took to get there. The weeks of trying different approaches. The sensory breaks. The movement. The play. The patience. The quiet encouragement. The belief that this child could do something they hadn’t done yet. That’s the work of pediatric occupational therapy. Not just teaching skills… but helping children feel capable in their own bodies. Helping them find confidence in movement. Helping them organize their world. Helping them experience success in ways that might not come easily. And sometimes the work is beautiful. Sometimes it’s messy. Sometimes it’s exhausting. But it is always meaningful. So this Occupational Therapy Month, I just want to say this: To the practitioners sitting on the floor of therapy gyms, adjusting swings, crawling through obstacle courses, celebrating the tiniest wins… I see you. And the work you do matters more than you know. Because those small moments we celebrate in therapy? They turn into bigger moments in life. Happy Occupational Therapy Month. 💛 — Alvin #OTMonth #PediatricOT #OccupationalTherapy #PediatricTherapy #DearPediatricPractitioner
