WOLOOK FOR THE HELPERS.
This reminder comes from Mr. Rogers, who credited his mother with teaching him how to respond to fear by directing attention toward care and service, not away from reality.
“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’”
Looking for the helpers trains us to notice care, responsibility, and quiet courage even in moments of crisis.
It gives us hope.
The helpers are rarely in charge.
They are teachers, neighbors, volunteers, parents, organizers.
People doing ordinary things with consistency and care.
This idea sits at the heart of peacebuilding:
Trust is built through showing up consistently, not exerting control.
Communities grow stronger when people stay engaged, choose care over withdrawal, and take part in the work of helping where they are.
Looking for the helpers reminds us that participation matters.
And that, more often than not, we are capable of becoming them. #peacebuilding
