Systems already exist that combine satellite imagery, real-time data, and advanced analytics to map what’s happening on Earth almost instantly. They work by integrating data from multiple sources: satellites constantly imaging the planet, GPS signals, air traffic, ships, urban activity, and other open data. All of this is processed into a visual interface that allows users to track movements, detect events, and analyze situations in real time. These tools feel like a mix between Google Earth and platforms like Palantir, where you don’t just see the map—you understand what’s happening on it. It doesn’t mean everything is visible live, but it does provide a global, dynamic, near real-time view of the world. We’re getting closer to turning the planet into a real-time monitored system.

These satellites are all gathering data about Earth - and people! And the more satellites you add to the constellation, the closer to real time the data gets. Live, uninterupted feeds of... you. Well, you and forests and seas and militia moving arms around. And since this is business, the value increases as the frequency that you collect that data gets closer to real time. A small peek at a geospatial data tool we’re developing. Pan across continents, zoom through the atmosphere, or scrub through time to watch patterns evolve. We’re beginning to layer in country level callouts driven directly by CSV datasets, making it easy to plug different data sources into the system and visualize them immediately. It’s powerful, though performance becomes a real challenge once the grid density gets too high — an interesting constraint when you’re dealing with the entire planet 🌐 More to come. #RareVolume #DataVisualization #GeospatialData #RealtimeGraphics #SpatialData

Building the next generation of connectivity demands a new kind of engineering thinking: one where coordination across systems matters as much as coverage. At @satshowweek, Space42 Managing Director Karim Sabbagh joined Isabelle Mauro, Director General of GSOA, for a fireside chat titled “The Case for Integration and Convergence.” From becoming a preferred partner for premium geospatial data, to being recognized as a global leader across geospatial intelligence, AI platform and services, Non-Terrestrial Networks, and secure connectivity; Space42’s four strategic pillars are the embodiment of this ambition. The conversation turned to the design challenge at the heart of Equatys: how do you build a system that seamlessly interoperates across LEO, GEO, and terrestrial networks simultaneously? The answer requires rethinking the engineering stack from the ground up. As Karim put it: “It’s moving from two-dimensional chess to three-dimensional chess. It’s interesting gymnastics… and it’s very healthy for our industry.” Space42 enters this challenge with significant inherited complexity. Both legacy Space42 and legacy @viasat operate large Mobile Satellite Services fleets delivering services today. Equatys must therefore manage resources across its own LEO constellation, an existing GEO layer, and the terrestrial networks of Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) worldwide. That level of multi-domain interoperability has never been attempted at this scale. The goal is a user experience so seamless that, whether a device is handing off from a terrestrial network to satellite and back again, the user never has to think about which network they are on. Achieving that requires simultaneous engagement at three levels: with the satellite system itself, with MNOs who operate the ground infrastructure, and with OEMs who build the devices that billions of people rely on every day. After the better part of 12 months on system design, Space42 and Viasat are ready to move to the next phase, with commercial launch targeted for the 2028-2029 window. Is it new? Yes. Is it impossible? As Karim said: “The answer is no. It’s perfectly within our reach.” Watch the excerpt here.

Your phone doesn’t just “know” where you are — it talks to space 🛰️📍 Satellite navigation works thanks to GNSS: global systems of satellites that help us find our position on Earth, whether we’re driving, flying, sailing, or just trying to find a coffee shop. There are four main GNSS systems: ✨ GPS — United States ✨ GLONASS — Russia ✨ BeiDou — China ✨ Galileo — European Union Most modern devices can use signals from several of these systems at once, which makes navigation faster and more accurate. And if that’s not enough, there are also extra systems that boost precision even more, like WAAS, EGNOS, and MSAS. So the next time maps guide you perfectly, remember: it’s a whole network of satellites working above your head 🌍🛰️ #SatelliteNavigation #Space #GPS #DidYouKnow #StarWalk

Wait for end 👀☠️ What can we say except, "You're welcome!" With a computer program called MOANA and NASA satellite data, scientists can identify the colorful plant-like organisms that drift in Atlantic Ocean currents. These phytoplankton nourish Earth's marine life, produce oxygen, absorb carbon, and turn satellite images into vibrant works of art. The first image, taken by NASA's Plankton, Aerosol, Cloud, ocean Ecosystem (PACE) satellite on May 16, 2025, shows the natural color of phytoplankton blooming in the nutrient-rich waters off the coast of Namibia. While each individual phytoplankton is microscopic, blooms of billions can be seen swirling in shades of greens and blues from orbit. Different species appear as different colors, and PACE detects the entire spectrum. By putting PACE color data into a computer program called Multi Ordination Analysis - the MOANA of this ocean tale - scientists can create maps where three different types of phytoplankton are thriving. The second image dives into the data to map the different communities in teal and purple. This helps provide insights into the health of schools of fish and other ocean life. Including, perhaps, how far they'll go.Image description: Two satellite images show the same portion of the Atlantic Ocean and the southwestern coast of Africa. In the first natural-color image, the left side is dark blue, with swirls of greens increasing toward the center of the image as the ocean meets the coastline. To the right of the first image, white clouds form dotted, curved lines over the tan and brown land. The second image maps data on phytoplankton communities over the ocean, with different communities identified in teals and purples. The land and clouds look the same as in the first image.
