Returning to running after having a baby does not just involve picking up your shoes and running again! 🏃‍♀️ It involves a lot of core strength and an optimal functioning pelvic floor as well as single & double leg strength. 💪There is not an “exact” timeline but usually around 10-12 weeks postpartum is a good starting point. (Given you have been working on your core and strength post-baby) If you ran throughout your pregnancy, you might be eager to jump back in but taking the time to rebuild with intention is key!!! 👏 Incorporating core and pelvic floor rehab, strength training & the proper progressions will prepare your body for a successful return to running!! 🙌😁🏃‍♀️ Return To Running Program is loading in the @foreverfit.app - stay tuned!! 😊 #postpartumfitness #postpartumjourney #postpartumrunning #postpartumrunner

There’s no perfect timeline‼️ Every mama’s return to running (or racing!) looks a little different—and that’s normal. Let’s normalize that there’s no magic number of weeks or months that works for everyone. I’m often asked how long it took me to return to running after baby #3, so in honor of #MarathonMonday, I’m sharing my personal journey back to the half marathon! 🏃‍♀️ As a Pelvic Floor & Sports Med PT, I worked hard to practice what I preach—returning to running in a way that was safe and symptom-free. Here’s what my first 6 months postpartum looked like: 👉 2 weeks – gentle healing movements 👉 6 weeks – rebuilding core and pelvic floor strength 👉 10 weeks – added single-leg strength + low-impact exercises 👉 12 weeks – passed the Return to Run checklist and began run/walk intervals 👉 20 weeks – ran my first 10K 👉 24 weeks – completed a half marathon! It wasn’t a PR, but it was pain-free and leak-free 💪 If you’re dreaming of running again postpartum, you’re not alone—and you don’t have to guess your way through it. Comment ✨RUN✨and I’ll send you my FREE postpartum Return to Run plan! Let’s get you back to doing what you love, mama. 🫶 #strongcoremama #strongrunningmama #postpartumjourney #postpartumrunning #pelvicfloorpt #returntorunning #postpartumfitness #mamarunner #runwithkids #halfmarathonmama #baby3 #womenshealthPT #6monthspostpartum

after losing over 100 lbs naturally (after having my 3rd baby) I promised myself that I would stay active during my ENTIRE pregnancy! I can officially say… I did it up until the very end. in fact, the day my water broke I had walked 3 miles! the 1st clip was taken 3 days after I found out I was pregnant and the last clip was taken a couple days before I had Luke! during the duration of my pregnancy: I logged 477 miles of walking and 224 miles of walking. I ran 2 half marathons, an 8 mile trail run and multiple 5ks throughout my pregnancy! here’s to getting my PINK back and proving (again) that slow, consistent effort adds up. postpartum glow up… loading. stay tuned 💗 #pregnancyfitness #pregnancyfit

Running after having a baby ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Lots of people will know they need to check their pelvic floor is ok before starting to run after birth but don’t forget that all the other muscles needed for running are likely to be deconditioned too. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Injury risk is higher when we’re already fatigued and you won’t always feel it immediately ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Hormones are important for muscle health and will likely still be depleted during the postpartum phase ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you’d like more videos about postpartum exercise and physiotherapy tips give us a 👋 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #newmom #postpartum #postpartumrunning #postnatalexercise #postnatalfitness #mumsofinstagram #mummy #the360mama

All I wanted for Valentine’s Day was a stroller tempo family run💖 this was a big accomplishment for me, I haven’t ran this fast since before I got pregnant it’s been about 1.5 years (time flies). Healing my pelvic floor postpartum has given me the freedom to get back into running and I couldn’t be more thankful!! #postpartumfitness #momfitness #momrunner #momswhorun #postpartumjourney

Don’t even get me started on the finish line feels 🥲😭 I cried three times during my 25.5km Trail Race last weekend —not out of pain, but out of just so much damn emotion for how proud I was of myself as a young mum and woman. Everything I’ve been through in the past two years as a mum was running through my head—and the truth is, nobody really knows the full weight of it. It all led to this moment. Everything I’ve carried, every hard moment, every little win… it all hit me at once. That finish line wasn’t just the end of a race—it was the quiet proof that I’m stronger than I’ve ever given myself credit for. My first year back to serious training was 2022—after eleven years away from competitive running. In that time, running was sporadic at best. I had six babies in six years, and my priority was simply raising my family. Honestly, the treadmill is what helped me rebuild my habit. When I hired my current coach in 2023, I asked if it was okay to train on the treadmill. Without hesitation, he said yes. While a mix of outdoor and indoor running is ideal, he assured me that treadmill training still translates. That simple reassurance meant everything to me. I needed to know that showing up—however I could, whenever I could—still counted, even if it didn’t look like the teenage athlete version of myself with fewer responsibilities and a whole lot more free time. The treadmill gave me the flexibility I needed: evening runs after bedtime, nap-window workouts, and 5am marathon sessions before the chaos began. Without it, I would have missed out on hundreds of miles these past few years. So don’t buy into the myth that treadmill miles don’t count. They absolutely do. And if they’re helping you move forward in your season of life? They might just count even more. I was not happy. I literally did the same two workouts over and over until I got faster and faster. That’s when I noticed the baby weight start to really come off as I started running faster. First month or two was just slow easy running before I started picking it up. . . #motherrunner #postpartumfitness #postpartumrunning #postpartumjourney #momof4 #runnergirl #momswhorun #momlete #womensrunning #runnersofinstagram

A reminder to myself and all postpartum friends out there: this is a season and it will not last forever. ❤️ Don’t wish away what you have because of what you want to chase. The goals aren’t going anywhere but your little one will never be the same way they are today. It’s okay to run 6x one week and 3x the next. It’s okay to not put races on the calendar. Is okay for runs to get interrupted and cut short. They still count. Whatever feels good each day is right for you. Breathe. Let it happen. Soak it in. These ARE the good old days. ❤️ #runwithruth #runcoach #runners #igrunning #mckirdytrained #postpartumrunning

Here’s what you need to know before you hit the pavement with your little one ✅ Wait until baby has full head + neck control — usually around 6–8 months, but always check with your pediatrician. ✅ Use the infant car seat adapter ONLY for walking, not running. ✅ Front wheel locked is non-negotiable when running — it’s a safety must. ✅ Keep the harness snug and the ride smooth. ✅ Start slow — it’s not just your legs adjusting, it’s their little body too. Stroller running is so much fun for both parents and kiddos alike but safety should always be a top priority! #strollerrunning #motherrunner #postpartumrunning #strollerrunner #runlikeamother
