Most babies (not all, but most) sleep better with proximity. This is because we’re wired for closeness, as humans, and the mother-baby dyad is truly interconnected. My body helps keep my baby’s body safe and regulated. My warmth helps stabilise my baby’s temperature. My out breath helps ensure healthy rousing to reduce the risk of SIDs. The key is to ensure families are equipped with all the facts, to make an informed decision about where baby sleeps, and to set up the sleep space safely (flat, clear, safeguarded from hazards…) 👉🏼 If you’re a parent and you’d love some sleep support that’s evidence based and works with your baby’s biology, comment MINI for your free baby sleep mini guide. And if you already work with families, or maybe you’d love to dive into a new career path, the PSAD certification is the only internationally accredited qualification of its kind. It’s time to change the landscape of baby sleep support, to one that prioritises accredited guidance, evidenced support, and methodologies that support the parent-child bond. Love, Louise xo For parents: follow @mothernourishnurture To get certified: follow @psadcertification Thank you to mama Alyssa, featured in this remix. An 18-month-old resting between two parents. Smiling. Relaxed. Regulated. Safe. This isn’t about sleep rules. It isn’t about habits or labels. And it isn’t about doing things “right” or “wrong.” This is secure attachment in motion. This is co-regulation, a child’s nervous system settling because safety is felt, not taught. This is connection happening in real time. Across much of the world, shared sleep is not controversial, it’s cultural, relational, and deeply human. What matters most isn’t where a child sleeps, but how safe, supported, and connected they feel while doing so. And yes, safety always matters. Every sleep environment should be assessed thoughtfully, responsibly, and in ways that reduce risk. Risk increases not from connection itself, but from unsafe setups or situations where caregivers are unable to respond fully, such as when adults are under the influence of alcohol, certain medications, substances, or are significantly dysregulated. Moments like this remind us that: • Regulation is relational • Safety is biological • And love is something the nervous system recognizes instantly At the International Parenting & Health Institute, via our Holistic Pregnancy& Child Sleep Consultant certification program, we teach families and professionals to move beyond fear-based messaging and toward informed, compassionate, biology-honoring support, where safety and connection are never in opposition. 🎥 Video credit: NewsFlare

Most parents stress about this at bedtime and honestly, that makes sense (it was me too!) Figuring out how warm (or cool) your baby should be can feel surprisingly confusing. One thing I teach every family I work with is this: checking hands and feet won’t actually tell you much about your baby’s temperature. Babies regulate heat differently than adults, so their extremities are often cooler, even when their core is totally comfortable. So here’s the temperature check that actually matters 👇🏻 HOW to do a temperature check-in: • Gently place your fingers on your baby’s chest or upper back/back of neck • You’re looking for warm + dry • Not hot, sweaty, or clammy If their chest feels too warm or damp, that’s your cue to remove a layer or adjust the room and reassess. A few guidelines to support that check: • Most comfortable sleep spaces fall in the 68–72°F range • Airflow matters: AC, fans, vents, or no AC at all can change how layers feel • Ask yourself: am I comfortable in this room right now? • Choose breathable fabrics and adjust layers with the season • When in doubt, it’s generally safer for babies to be slightly cooler than too warm This isn’t about creating worry, it’s about giving you a simple tool so bedtime feels calmer and more confident! 🤍 For more evidence-based safe sleep guidance, I always recommend reviewing resources from the American Academy of Pediatrics. ✨ Save this for tonight’s bedtime routine And if you’re new here - hi! 🔥 Let’s talk about DOUBLE HEATING and why it’s dangerous. As the weather cools, I see this all the time: Parents turn on the heater AND dress their baby like it’s freezing. That’s double heating and it’s not just uncomfortable, it’s unsafe. 🛑 Overheating is a known risk factor for unsafe sleep. If you’re warming the room with a heater (great!), just make sure you’re adjusting your baby’s layers to suit the new indoor temp, not the temp outside. ✅ One source of heat is enough. ✅ Always dress baby according to the actual room temperature. ✅ Safe sleep first, always. 📲 Share this with every parent you know. Dogs don’t choose to sleep close to you by accident it’s communication without words. When my dog started pressing closer at night, I realized it wasn’t just “cute behavior.” It was information. 1️⃣ Comfort and safety Sleeping next to you is your dog’s highest form of trust. You’re their safe place, their pack leader, their calm. When they choose your bed, your feet, or your chest they’re saying “I feel protected here.” It’s emotional security more than habit. 2️⃣ Body regulation and warmth Dogs naturally use close contact to regulate temperature, breathing rhythm, and stress levels. Just like puppies pile together, adult dogs still seek body contact when they feel physically off, sore, or low-energy. Closeness helps them settle their nervous system. 3️⃣ It can be a quiet signal something feels wrong Extra clingy sleep behavior can sometimes be your dog’s way of saying their body feels uncomfortable joint stress, recovery, weakness, or inflammation. Mine did this before I noticed the mobility changes. That’s when I added daily support to his routine, including ✅Taily collagen 🧬 (vet-trusted+on Amazon) mixed into his food and over time he slept more peacefully and moved more comfortably. Sometimes a dog sleeping closer isn’t just affection. Sometimes it’s a whisper for help wrapped in love. 🐾 Follow + Comment “MOVE” I’ll send you the food-based joint support I give my dog + the link of the collagen that actually worked 🧬✨ #DogStories #PetSafety #DogRecovery #TailyCollagen #usa

Faves of 2025! Where’s the chapter on chest sleeping in the what to expect forums / books / classes!? What a lot of parents don’t realize is that many newborns will not sleep in their crib… or even next to you in a bed. It doesn’t matter how often you try or how long you wait before setting them down - some babies will ONLY sleep if they are *on* you. And when that’s the case, safe chest sleeping becomes one of the only options for parents to get any sleep. This is a much safer alternative than trying to keep yourself awake all night while you hold your baby, or worse, falling asleep with them on a couch or in a rocking chair. All three of my babies have only accept chest sleeping as newborns, and although I definitely had moments of, “How much longer can I survive this!?”, with each of them, it always faded on its own. Over time, babies become less sensitive to being placed next to us, and gradually we’re able transition from safe chest sleeping to safe bedsharing. If you find yourself in a season of chest sleeping, make sure you’re following all the safe bedsharing guidelines, and: ➡️ prop yourself up enough so that your baby’s head is higher than their bum when they lie on you. ➡️ lie in the middle of your bed so if your baby accidentally rolls off you, they fall to the mattress. ➡️ make sure your pillows are tucked behind your back/ head. Don’t use pillows to prop your arms up - this becomes a suffocation risk if your baby rolls off your chest and into the pillows. ➡️ Make sure your blanket is only pulled up to your waist, so that if your baby rolls off you it’s far from where they would land. Rest assured, babies who want to chest sleep only is normal! How sleep looks now is not how it will look forever - you will get to resume sleeping horizontally again soon! Tag a friend who needs to see this and follow @kaitlinklimmer for more realistic, attachment-focussed infant and toddler sleep support 🌙✨🫶🏼 #babysleep #newborn #safesleep #cosleeping #postpartum

Safe sleep guidelines exist to reduce the risk of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) and ensure your baby sleeps safely. According to the AAP, a safe sleep environment includes: • A firm, flat mattress • A tightly fitted sheet • No loose bedding, pillows, or toys until at least 12 months of age • A well-fitted sleep sack or appropriate sleepwear • Always placing baby on their back to sleep These practices significantly lower risks and give you peace of mind. This is a great, science-backed post. It’s a classic case of "parental intuition" actually running counter to anatomy! It’s vital to spread the word that the back is truly the safest place for a baby to dream. Here is the translation, keeping that informative and urgent tone: Safe Sleep for Infants: Back is Best Do you also put your baby to sleep on their side because you’re worried they might spit up and choke while sleeping on their back? This video is to draw attention to the critically important topic of infant sleep safety ❗️ The Reality of Anatomy: When a baby spits up while sleeping on their back, the stomach contents actually slide back down into the stomach more easily. In fact, sleeping on the back REDUCES potential danger to the child! Airways: A baby's airways are most clear in this position. Aspiration Risk: The risk of inhaling fluids is minimal, even for infants with gastroesophageal reflux (GERD). The Danger of Stomach Sleeping: Sleeping on the stomach increases the likelihood of aspiration significantly. In this position, the trachea (windpipe) sits lower than the esophagus, meaning gravity can cause spit-up to fall directly into the airways. ✅ Essential Rules for Parents: Always lay your baby down to sleep on their back. Once your baby can roll over on their own during sleep, there is no need to keep flipping them back over. #kiddocaretips #parentingtips #babydevelopment #newmomtips #babyhealth
