TOCoaches love to say “hard work pays off”, so with the high school #baseball season officially underway I wanted to take a sec and highlight the embodiment of that 👇
Olathe East catcher Carson May, a University of Kentucky commit, joined the TopSpeed program towards the end of Fall in 2025 and worked his ass off throughout the winter months, exhibiting A+ consistency, effort, and communication along the way.
From a metrics standpoint, the “payoff” was fantastic;
🔵60 Yard Dash was .11 faster than 2025 best (actually .4 faster than his last PBR that used the SmartSpeed gates)
🔵Vertical jump up 6.2” inches
🔵Throwing velocity from the squat was 7 mph faster
🔵Batted ball exit velocity was up 14 mph
He’s another one of those guys who smirks when I go “Ive got an idea” during our meetings before each new phase. Always willing to take-on whatever we throw at him.
We can’t say enough good things about Carson, super proud of this kid 👏👏👏

When we talk about increasing velocity at The Bullpen, it always comes with better command and healthier arm positions. When an athlete learns how to transfer energy efficiently through the kinetic chain, more power is delivered into the ball instead of being absorbed by the joints.
The result is simple: more velo, better command, and healthier movement patterns.
The difference in how we coach is that we don’t just tell athletes what to change — we explain the why behind it.
When athletes understand the purpose, the body organizes itself faster and the results show up quickly.
Technology has also changed the way we train. Early in my career, I believed I could see almost everything with the naked eye. Once we started using tools like Trackman and biomechanical assessments, it became clear that even experienced coaches are only right part of the time when relying purely on observation.
That’s why we rely on data, technology, and biomechanics to confirm what’s actually happening. Athletes shouldn’t have to rely on guesswork or hope that someone’s eye is right. The best coaching today is built on verified information, not assumptions.
That’s how we consistently produce fast, healthy velocity gains.
