A lot to digest and unravel so this is part 1 with more to come.
I honestly was expecting it to be much more straightforward when it’s a vaccine we routinely give our most vulnerable populations (pregnancy and infants).
These studies are difficult to interpret so a great one to have conversations on if you’ve looked into these studies as well.💬⬇️

DOMamas we need a Tdap vaccine every pregnancy, ideally between 27 and 36 weeks, to protect our babies from whooping cough. I do not play games. As a pediatrician I have seen whooping cough affect infants and it is awful. I’m also asking people who will be meeting him to make sure they are up to date on their Tdap because we will need layers of protection to keep my little guy safe ❤️

DOLet them call you crazy. Your baby’s health comes first, and anyone who comes around them needs to be fully vaccinated and respectful of your boundaries. This mama is 100% in the right for prioritizing her baby’s health. Whoever doesn’t understand or support that- bye! Whooping cough and other respiratory illnesses, are no joke in little babies and in general.

Again, anyone who comes around a newborn needs to have a recent Tdap vaccine, flu shots during flu season, and respect boundaries.

JEAll masks were *not* created equal, so it’s crucial to understand why some masks are more effective than others ‼️ With COVID, Flu A/B, Norovirus, Pneumonia, Strep, Tuberculosis, Measles, and potential Bird Flu cases taking over the nation, it’s imperative to find a respirator that best fits your face, and to wear it consistently 😷
I hope that anyone who watches this video makes the switch from no masks/low efficiency masks to highly protective respirators… and never looks back!
I do make a point in the video to say that wearing lesser quality masks (cloth or surgical if those are all you can access) is slightly better than not masking at all—but again, it is 🙅🏼♀️ not recommended 🙅🏼♀️. If maintaining a regular supply of respirator masks is cost prohibitive for you, try looking for a local mask bloc near you on maskbloc.org.

DR¿Qué es la tosferina, quién necesita la vacuna y cómo se trata?
La tosferina (también conocida como pertussis) es una enfermedad respiratoria causada por la bacteria Bordetella pertussis.
Es altamente contagiosa y puede ser peligrosa, especialmente en bebés menores de 1 año.
Síntomas principales:
• Comienza como un resfriado común (moqueo, fiebre leve, tos)
• Evoluciona a una tos fuerte, persistente y en ataques
• Puede causar vómitos, dificultad para respirar o pausas en la respiración (apneas)
• En algunos casos, se escucha el típico “gallo” al respirar tras un ataque de tos
¿Quién necesita la vacuna?
💉 Vacuna DTaP (bebés y niños):
• 2, 4, 6 meses
• Refuerzos a los 15–18 meses y 4–6 años
💉 Vacuna Tdap (adolescentes y adultos):
• Refuerzo a los 11–12 años
• Una vez en la edad adulta si no la han recibido antes
🤰 Embarazadas:
• Una dosis en cada embarazo, idealmente entre las semanas 27 y 36, para proteger al recién nacido
👨👩👧👦 Familiares y cuidadores de bebés:
• También deben tener la vacuna al día para crear un “escudo” protector
Tratamiento:
• Antibióticos, especialmente si se detecta temprano
• En casos graves, puede requerir hospitalización (sobre todo en bebés)
• La mejor protección es la prevención con vacunación
Evita exponer a los más vulnerables.
La tosferina puede parecer una tos cualquiera… hasta que es demasiado tarde.

La tosferina (o pertussis) es una enfermedad respiratoria altamente contagiosa, que puede afectar a personas de todas las edades, pero es especialmente peligrosa en bebés menores de 1 año.
🤧 Los síntomas pueden comenzar como un resfriado común, pero después se transforman en una tos muy fuerte y persistente, que puede causar vómitos, dificultad para respirar o incluso pausas en la respiración en los más pequeños.
💉 ¿Cómo podemos protegernos?
• Con la vacuna DTaP en la infancia (a los 2, 4, 6 y 15-18 meses, y luego entre los 4-6 años)
• Con el refuerzo Tdap en adolescentes y adultos
• Las mujeres embarazadas deben recibir una dosis durante cada embarazo para proteger al recién nacido desde el nacimiento
⚠️ ¿Y si estuve expuesto a alguien con tosferina?
• Contacta a tu médico o pediatra lo antes posible.
• Algunas personas pueden necesitar antibióticos preventivos, sobre todo si conviven con bebés o personas inmunocomprometidas.
• Observa síntomas durante 21 días y evita el contacto con personas vulnerables.
