ABMany chest rubs (like camphor/menthol products) contain camphor, a compound that can be highly toxic if ingested or over-absorbed in young children. Camphor poisoning can cause nausea, vomiting, seizures, respiratory distress, coma, and even death. 
In fact, in medical reports:
• Ingestion of as little as 500 mg camphor (less than the amount in 5 mL of some products) has been linked to mortality and seizures in toddlers. 
• Poison center data show thousands of annual exposures to camphor containing products in children, most under 6 years old. 
Never use camphor/menthol chest rubs in children < 2 years; even topical use around the nose can irritate airways and increase risk. 
Safer options include saline drops, gentle suction, and cool-mist humidifiers. Always check age recommendations and talk to a clinician before giving remedies to kids.
⚠️ Natural ≠ safe. Safety is about evidence especially in pediatrics.
