CGUS President Donald Trump claimed that he “knew about the Strait [of Hormuz] that it would be a weapon” and that he “predicted Osama bin Laden would knock out the World Trade Center.”
In a Washington DC press conference on Monday, Trump also claimed the US had “obliterated” Iran but repeated his call for other nations to help him keep the Strait of Hormuz “open.”
Iranian FM Abbas Araghchi has said the Strait - which handles around 20 per cent of global oil traffic - "is open to friends and non-hostile countries, but closed to enemies and those who collaborate with them."
Trump’s 2000 book ‘The America We Deserve’ contained one passing mention of Osama bin Laden - “One day we’re told that a shadowy figure with no fixed address named Osama bin-Laden is public enemy number one, and US jetfighters lay waste to his camp in Afghanistan. He escapes back under some rock, and a few news cycles later it’s on to a new enemy and new crisis.”
Elsewhere in the book, Trump predicted “we’re in danger of the sort of terrorist attacks that will make the [1993] bombing of the Trade Center look like kids playing with firecrackers. No sensible analyst rejects this possibility, and plenty of them, like me, are not wondering if but when it will happen.”

Speaking in the IMUN Role Model Series, journalist Palki Sharma questioned the relevance of institutions like the WTO in an era where powerful leaders like Donald Trump can “break all rules” and still face little consequence. She argued that even if countries approach the WTO, disputes take years and outcomes may not be truly binding, raising doubts about whether global powers actually respect international courts and rule-based systems.
Palki also called the G7 a Western-designed framework built to serve Western interests, pointing out that Italy isn’t among the world’s top seven economies while India is, yet remains only an observer. Still, she stressed India should not disengage. Instead, it must be “in every room,” part of every conversation, through platforms like SCO, Quad and BRICS, making imperfect systems work through smart diplomacy.

IN🇮🇩 Indonesia menyelenggarakan Workshop “Legal Analysis on the Comprehensive WTO Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies: Toward MC14 and Beyond” di WTO, Jenewa, pada 3 Desember 2025.
Workshop ini bertujuan menggalang dukungan Anggota WTO terhadap posisi Indonesia, khususnya dalam mendorong ketentuan tambahan subsidi perikanan yang melindungi nelayan skala kecil serta memastikan keselarasan perjanjian dengan UNCLOS.
Dalam sambutan pembuka, Wakil Tetap RI di Jenewa, Duta Besar Sidharto Reza Suryodipuro, menekankan pentingnya menjaga momentum perundingan melalui pendekatan yang seimbang, inklusif, dan berorientasi pembangunan. Sementara itu, Wakil Menteri Luar Negeri RI Arif Havas Oegroseno menegaskan prioritas Indonesia sebagai negara kepulauan terbesar di dunia terkait isu maritim dan kepatuhan terhadap UNCLOS.

🇮🇩 Indonesia hosted the workshop “Legal Analysis on the Comprehensive WTO Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies: Toward MC14 and Beyond” at the WTO in Geneva on 3 December 2025.
The workshop aimed to build support for Indonesia’s position on additional fisheries subsidy disciplines that protect small-scale fishers and ensure consistency with UNCLOS.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Sidharto Reza Suryodipuro underscored the importance of sustaining negotiation momentum through a balanced and inclusive approach. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Arif Havas Oegroseno highlighted Indonesia’s priorities as the world’s largest archipelagic State, particularly on maritime issues and compliance with UNCLOS.
