Abacus 101 - Sharing how we use an abacus. There’s so many ways to use this calculating tool. Also fast fact they have been in use since ancient times ❤️ Making it the first calculator! Here is what we do: 1. Pick a side- the 😴 emoji is a visual reminder for my daughter that those beads are sleeping. If she needs to use them to add she moves them over to the right side. 2. We love flash cards, they are inexpensive and easy for her to practice math facts without excessive printing. I always push her to make a ten and create a new sentence with all her facts - so in this example she will see that 7 + 7 is the same as 10 + 4 - she knows that the zero will say goodbye and the 4 will take it’s spot. I will share more abacus strategies as this is just the beginning of the abacus 101 ❤️ #kindergartenhomeschool #mathtools #handsonmath #abacus #countingtools #countingtoolsforkids
