Ada Lovelace met Charles Babbage as a teenager and understood his machine when no one else did. She added notes—longer than the paper itself—and inside them wrote the first algorithm for a machine. She even imagined computers creating music, graphics, and AI. She was forgotten for a century. Then scientists rediscovered her work. Today, a programming language used by the U.S. Department of Defense bears her name: ADA. The first programmer wasn’t remembered—until the future caught up. Ada Lovelace was born in 1815. The daughter of poet Lord Byron. As a teenager, she met Charles Babbage — the man building the first mechanical computer: the Analytical Engine. No one understood his work. Except Ada. She translated an article about his machine — and added her own notes. Her notes were 3x longer than the article. Inside those notes? The first algorithm ever written for a machine. She imagined computers not just doing math - but creating music, graphics, even Al. They ignored her. For decades, Babbage got all the credit. But in 1953 — scientists found her work. Realized she had written the first computer program. Today, the U.S. Department of Defense has a programming language named after her: ADA. The world forgot her for 100 years. This page shares wins by women, daily.

Ada Lovelace | The Prophet of the Digital Age Ada Lovelace was born in 1815, when women weren’t expected to study math, let alone change it. Her mother trained her in mathematics to prevent her from inheriting her father Lord Byron’s “dangerous imagination.” It backfired beautifully. When Ada encountered Charles Babbage’s Analytical Engine, she saw what no one else did. This machine wouldn’t just calculate numbers. It could manipulate symbols. It could follow instructions. It could create. In 1843, she wrote a set of notes describing how the engine could compute Bernoulli numbers. That algorithm is now considered the first computer program in history. More hauntingly, she predicted computers could one day compose music and generate art, over a century before computers existed. She died at 36, dismissed as a translator in her lifetime. The world caught up long after. She didn’t invent a machine. She invented the idea of software. #adalovelace #thealmostgenius #programming

Ada Lovelace lived in the 1800s (10th December, 1815 - 27th November, 1852), long before computers even existed. Yet she imagined a world where machines could do more than just calculate numbers. While studying the mechanical computer designed by Charles Babbage, she wrote what is now considered the first computer program. What made her truly visionary was her belief that machines could one day create music, art, and complex ideas. Almost a century before modern computers appeared, Ada had already seen their future. Today she’s remembered as the world’s first computer programmer. The future of technology started with her. #AdaLovelace #WomenInSTEM #WomenInTech #TechHistory #FirstProgrammer computer history pioneer women in science innovation coding history analytical engine charles babbage early computing visionaries women who changed technology STEM inspiration history of programming digital revolution origins tech education
