ROLast week Waymo unveiled a new AI simulation system called the Waymo World Model, built on Google DeepMind’s Genie 3 technology.
The model generates photorealistic driving scenarios (complete with camera and lidar data) from simple text prompts, allowing engineers to train self-driving cars on rare and dangerous situations without waiting to encounter them on real roads.
The system can also convert ordinary dashcam footage into full multi-sensor simulations and modify conditions like weather, lighting, and traffic in recorded drives.
The technology arrives as Waymo expands into cities with more challenging driving conditions, like Boston and Washington D.C. among many others.

CNDriverless air taxis in China may be ready to take off, technologically speaking, but they still face regulatory restrictions.
That’s why companies are limiting operations for now, using fixed-route trips to generate revenue and prove they’re safe.
For now, Ehang’s driverless aerial vehicle is mostly used for sightseeing, on an invitation-only basis, in cities like Guangzhou and Hefei. “But in the future, we hope that it’ll truly become an air taxi, just like our Didi and Uber,” says senior marketing manager Kathleen Leong.
