Vintage animation from Disney was created through an extremely detailed, frame-by-frame process known as cel animation. Long before digital tools, every movement on screen had to be physically drawn, painted, and photographed by hand. Production began with storyboards and fully painted background artwork. Animators then drew each pose of a character onto clear celluloid sheets called cels, carefully adjusting the drawings to capture smooth motion. Each cel was hand-inked, painted on the reverse side, and layered precisely over the background art. Once assembled, the layered artwork was photographed one frame at a time using a specialized animation camera. When played back in sequence, these still images created the illusion of life and movement. Music, dialogue, and sound effects were added last, bringing the cartoon fully to life.
