KAJour 61 — J’apprends le basque (Euskara).
Aujourd’hui, j’ai raconté mon histoire en français… pour la première fois.
Je suis Américain.
Je vis au Pays Basque.
Et j’apprends l’euskara depuis deux ans et demi.
Ce projet de 365 jours ne veut pas dire que j’apprends “vite”.
Ça veut dire que je progresse un peu, chaque jour.
Petit à petit.
Pixkanaka.
Il y a 25 ans, un ami m’a dit que mon nom de famille est basque. Je ne savais même pas ce que c’était.
Mais cette idée m’a marqué. Une langue mystérieuse.
Ancienne. Unique.
Et maintenant, tous les jours, je fais une petite vidéo pour continuer, même quand c’est imparfait.

I asked someone to teach me a sentence in Basque — and I found @mr.lukeen
He didn’t just teach me a phrase.
He reminded me of something important about local tradition.
Not everyone talks to strangers in the street here.
Most people don’t.
That’s part of the ohitura — the custom.
And if you want to learn Basque?
You’ll have to break your own comfort first.
You’ll need to speak to anyone who’s willing.

Yes. Basque has its own traditional counting-out rhyme.
In English, you say “Eeny, meeny, miny, moe.”
In Euskara, you say this:
