Here’s Your Journey in 5️⃣ Steps!
Step 1️⃣: Grad School Gig 🎓 First things first, gotta land a grad-level ABA program that’s perfect for you. Online ? On campus? Whichever one you choose, be sure to research their passing rates. If your already have a masters in psychology or special education, you may qualify for the BACB certification program which is about 8 or 9 courses opposed to getting a second masters degree. Whether you’re starting fresh or leveling up, the journey begins here!
Step 2️⃣: Supervision Shuffle 🕵️♂️ 2000 hours of supervision might sound like a lot, but with the right mentors and dedication, it could be the best part of your journey. A lot of people get stuck at this step. Either they can’t find a supervisor, or their current supervisor isn’t meeting the requirements of both restricted and unrestricted hours. If this is you, you need to have a serious conversion with your supervisor about your goals.
Step 3️⃣: Study Hustle 📚🤯 Grab your study materials and dive into the ABA universe! 🌌 Study, practice, take mock examples, invest in study materials that meet your budget and get ready to shine. Aim for at least 6 months of studying (EVERYDAY) to feel like as ready as possible 🤓💪🏾
Step 4️⃣: Exam Elation 📝🎉 Once you’ve checked all the boxes, it’s time to apply and sit for the BCBA exam. 📋✅ Nervous? I don’t think anyone walkes into that testing center without butterflies in their stomach. But you will be prepared and you’ve got this! Pass that exam and get ready to rock your BCBA status! 🥳🌟
Step 5️⃣: Celebrate! Or study & retake. So about 46% of test takes don’t pass on the first try. That’s okay. Once you become a BCBA, it’s not like they ask how many time did it take you to pass on your job application. So don’t be discouraged by any of these steps & remeber it’s not a race. You can finish on your own time (❌just don’t exceed 5 years when collecting supervison hours)
