Hi All I have been working on a kitty rescue project since the fall. I relocated an entire feral colony that was living behind a restaurant eating out of the dumpsters to my garage. More of their story is on TT LeslieBLiving With the help of local volunteers and social media I was able to make a little kitty heaven for them in my garage. Heated shelters, rugs, and recently huge kitty towers and lots of toys. They are so spoiled now. I did not think this would happen but for spring summer we are building a nice cat enclosure. I have a really bad back these days so we are hiring someone. He is a local handyman and super excited about the project. It will be more than just a prefabricated catio. We are so excited to say goodbye to our tether and hello to our new @purrfectfence - the kitties love being able to play and explore in our backyard to their hearts’ content and we love the safety and peace of mind it gives us! (Note: We’ll still be using a harness and leash whenever we adventure outside of this space.) Acknowledgement of privilege- we know that not everyone owns their home or has the money to be able to afford cat-proof fencing or even a catio! The catio we built was not enough for Ember’s needs and the tether served us well for over a year, so there’s no shame if that’s your method of giving your cat outdoor enrichment looks differently than us! If a cat LOVES the outdoors, is it really fair to keep them indoors their whole lives? As someone who is very outdoorsy, the thought of being kept inside my whole life doesn’t sit well with me… I believe that if your cat likes the outdoors then it’s YOUR responsibly to let them have outdoor time safely, be it harness training, catios or cat fencing. Even 10 minutes a day in a patch of grass outside your home or a garden would suffice! If you can’t commit to giving a cat that loves the nature safe outdoor time, PLEASE don’t let them free roam😩 if you’d like a purely indoors cat, it’s much better to look into adopting a cat that only wants to stay inside. #freeroaming #outdoorcat #catwalking
