Even if its speed stays the same, it’s always accelerating toward the center — this is called centripetal acceleration: a_c = \frac{v^2}{r} This acceleration comes from a centripetal force, which is always perpendicular to the velocity of the object. Key points: • Tangential velocity (v) is the linear speed along the path: v = \omega r • Tangential velocity is perpendicular to the radius — it’s along the tangent at the object’s position on the circle. • In uniform circular motion, the speed is constant, but the direction keeps changing, so the object is always accelerating toward the center. Why perpendicular? Geometry: a tangent touches the circle at only one point and is always at a right angle to the radius there.
