The easiest and cheapest electrolysis ever. You just need a plastic cup, 2 pins, a battery, and water. Remember to add a pinch of baking soda or salt to the water to increase its conductivity. I used sodium sulfate. Electricity is used to split water into hydrogen and oxygen, which are produced at the two pins connected to the poles of the battery. This process is called electrolysis. During electrolysis, water molecules (H₂O) are broken down into hydrogen ions (H⁺) and hydroxide ions (OH⁻). The hydrogen ions move towards the negative pole (cathode), where they gain electrons and form hydrogen gas (H₂). The hydroxide ions move towards the positive pole (anode), where they lose electrons and form oxygen gas (O₂). You will notice that the amount of hydrogen gas produced is twice the amount of oxygen gas. This is because each water molecule consists of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom (H₂O). #science #chemistryvideo #ChemistryMagic #chemistrystudents #lovechemistry

Friction welding joins materials by spinning one piece against another at high speed under pressure. The friction generates enough heat to melt the contact point and fuse the two pieces together. It works consistently on metals and plastics. On glass it fails catastrophically. Glass has extremely low thermal conductivity. The heat generated at the contact point stays trapped there while the rest of the rod remains cool. That temperature difference creates internal stress that the brittle material cannot absorb. The result is thermal shock and immediate shattering. The same process that creates a strong joint in metal destroys glass because the material cannot distribute the heat fast enough. Plasma cannot pass through glass. Glass does not conduct electricity. It blocks charged particles from moving freely. This prevents the plasma from crossing through it. As a result, plasma stays contained within its boundary. Why does non-conductivity make such a strong barrier? #physics #science #technology

Thermal conductivity determines how rapidly heat energy transfers through a material under extreme industrial conditions. Among solid metals, silver exhibits the highest thermal conductivity, followed closely by copper, making them critical in heat exchangers, electrical systems, and high-performance cooling applications. Their free electron density enables rapid energy transfer, minimizing thermal resistance and preventing localized overheating. In manufacturing environments where heat dissipation directly impacts efficiency and structural integrity, selecting a high-conductivity metal can significantly improve system reliability and performance. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . DIY or Danger? Turning a Pencil into a Soldering Iron with Just a 9V Battery In this eye-catching reel, creativity meets conductivity as a simple pencil is transformed into a makeshift soldering iron, using only a 9V battery, a safety pin, and basic electrical components. It’s a striking example of resourcefulness and scientific curiosity, demonstrating how graphite’s conductive properties can be harnessed to generate heat through electrical resistance. ✏️🔋🔥 Here’s how it works: the graphite core of the pencil acts as a resistor. When electric current from the battery flows through it, the resistance causes the graphite to heat up, becoming hot enough — in theory — to melt solder. This principle, while grounded in basic electrical engineering, is usually found in controlled lab setups or as an experiment in physics classes. In this case, it's applied to create a tool for quick, low-precision soldering tasks. ⚠️ But while the innovation is impressive, it comes with serious safety caveats. As highlighted in numerous electronics safety resources, improvised tools like this pose risks of: Electrical shocks, especially from exposed terminals Burn injuries, as the heated graphite and metal components reach high temperatures Fire hazards, if flammable materials are nearby or the battery short-circuits Poor control, leading to damage on sensitive electronic components It’s important to note that this DIY soldering iron is not a replacement for commercial soldering equipment, which includes temperature regulation, insulation, and precision tips for safe, effective use. Still, as a conceptual demonstration, it’s a fascinating way to explore material science, conductivity, and emergency problem-solving. This reel is a reminder of both human ingenuity and the importance of understanding the boundaries between creativity and caution. 🚧✨ --- #DIYTech #SolderingHack #GraphiteConductivity #ScienceInEverydayLife #MakersGonnaMake ElectronicsSafety EmergencyEngineering STEMProject InnovateResponsibly PencilSolderingIron TechDIYFailsafe ConductiveCreativity

a video of a storm at the lake, where a downed power line creates a blue electric flash in the water. This causes hundreds of fish to panic and jump to the surface, demonstrating the deadly conductivity of electricity in the aquatic environment. This footage matches verified incidents in early 2026, such as downed power lines at Table Rock Lake on February 25th and at a reservoir on January 29th, where storms toppled poles and electrocuted large numbers of fish. These incidents were also reported on social media and in news clips. Although some reactions dismiss it as AI-generated, the phenomenon is scientifically possible—AC current from high-voltage lines (often 7,200–34,500 volts) affects the nervous system of fish through "electrotaxis," which can cause instant confusion and death. #didyouknow #naturefacts #mysterious #darknature #dailyfact

These glowing cubes are LI-900, a high-performance silica ceramic material originally developed by NASA for the Space Shuttle thermal protection system. Made from 99.9\% pure silica fibers, these tiles are incredibly lightweight—consisting mostly of air—and have extremely low thermal conductivity. Because silica is such a poor conductor of heat, the outer surface of the block cools almost instantly when exposed to air, while the core remains a molten 1200^{\circ}\text{C} (2200^{\circ}\text{F}). This rapid heat dissipation allows the person in the video to safely handle the blocks by the edges just seconds after they’ve been removed from the furnace. This technology was crucial for protecting the Space Shuttle during the intense heat of atmospheric re-entry, where friction from the air creates temperatures over 1600^{\circ}\text{C} (3000^{\circ}\text{F}). ⠀ Follow @showingyoustuff for more interesting facts ⠀ Credit: Unknown (no copyright intended/DM for credit or removal) ⠀ #science #nasa #physics #engineering #discovery

Friction welding works by spinning one piece of material against another until the heat from resistance melts the contact point and fuses the two together. The process is reliable on metals and plastics, but attempt it on glass and the result is immediate, violent failure. The problem is thermal conductivity, or rather, the lack of it. Glass traps heat at the point of contact instead of spreading it through the material. As that spot grows intensely hot, the rest of the rod stays cool. The resulting temperature gradient builds internal stress faster than the brittle structure can accommodate it, and the glass shatters. What makes friction welding strong in metal is precisely what makes it lethal to glass: concentrated, rapid heat. Metal distributes that energy and bonds. Glass holds it in one place until it breaks. 🚨 Follow @aidisruptor for the latest in AI and tech innovation. Electrician’s Craft: Mastering Clean and Secure Wire Connections! ⚡🔌 Observe the impressive ingenuity and neatness of a professional wiring technique! This is where practical problem-solving meets electrical safety, ensuring multiple cables are bundled into a solid, high-conductivity connection for a circuit breaker. The Art of Secure Electrical Termination This process is a brilliant example of manual cable management, where a "wrapped-core" method is used to create a durable contact point: The Setup: A set of insulated copper wires is prepared to be connected to a standard 2-pole circuit breaker. The Technique: Instead of simply twisting the ends or using a bulky connector, the electrician uses one of the wires to wrap around the others, creating a tight, uniform bundle. The Assembly (0:00 - 0:35): Stripping and Prepping: The insulation is stripped to reveal clean copper cores, which are then grouped tightly together. The Binding Wrap: One wire is bent into a loop and then coiled around the remaining wires with pliers. This ensures the bundle remains compact and won't fray under pressure. The Final Insertion: The "custom-made" terminal end is inserted into the breaker's lug and tightened securely with a screwdriver. The Result: A rock-solid connection with maximum surface area contact, which is crucial for: Preventing Arcing: Reducing the risk of loose wires that can cause sparks or heat buildup. Long-Term Reliability: Ensuring the connection stays intact even under the vibration or thermal expansion of a working electrical panel. This level of professional attention to detail is what separates a standard DIY job from a master-level installation! What’s your go-to trick for keeping your wiring jobs neat and safe?
