SWI like to breakdown the crossover turn into pieces. In this example I use two drills.
Touch + Turn: you kick into the wall already in the right position. This is the remove the “timing” element which can be harder for some kids. We are only going to focus on the flip after the turn.
Open water crossover: we remove the wall to we can just get dialed into the flip and body position. Its a great way to build awareness to what the body is doing during the flip
Then you put the two together, add some timing in, and you have a crossover.

TACrossover turns are one of the most crucial skills that can be learned in swimming. However, I believe that we often overcomplicate this skill, so here's my way of breaking down the crossover turn.
Step 1: Hold the wall with your dominant arm on top of your body without and get used to the sensation of being on your side. When doing the crossover, swimmers who are learning this skill often get confused with the sensation of having their arm above the water as opposed to in the water, which feels more natural.
Step 2: From the 5 meter flags into the wall, count how many stroke it takes for you to get to the wall. Stroke count will vary for each person, so be sure to end your last stroke with your hand above and end Step 2 by going back and following Step 1.
Step 3: This is where I believe many people become confused and ovethink the turn. Once you have touched the wall with your dominant arm above you turn your face towards the bottom of the pool and from here do a flip turn.
Congratulations! You have just made crossovers easy!
