Owning a small business is one of the greatest blessings of my life. There are days I stand in the middle of it all and think, how did I build this? But when you own it, you never really clock out. Not even when you’re recovering from an accident. Not even when your body is telling you to slow down. I have an incredible staff, truly. They kept everything running and I’m so grateful for them. But there are a lot of questions only I know the answers to. A lot of decisions that land on my phone. A lot of weight that doesn’t get delegated. And when you care (like most small business owners do) you don’t just “run” it. You: • overthink • double-check • replay conversations • troubleshoot before there’s even a problem • protect the brand • protect your people • obsess over details • carry the risk • answer “one more message” at midnight Most mornings I wake up to 20+ messages. DMs. Texts. Emails. App notifications. Calls. “Hey I messaged the other day…” Trust me — most of the time, you’re first in line. There’s just only one of me. And now we’re not just maintaining…we’re growing. We just launched our brand new app. We ship our coffee and merchandise all over the world. We’re expanding systems, adding ideas, building things behind the scenes. And there are a few projects in the works that I’m not ready to jinx just yet. Growth is exciting, but growth adds layers. More visibility. More access. More responsibility. In a world where everyone can reach you instantly; social media, cell phones, apps, it adds up fast. And for someone like me who already battles a little social anxiety, it can feel overwhelming. But I keep going. Because I care. About this business. About the people who work here. About the people who support it. About building something bigger than me. And if you’re a small business owner reading this…I see you.

Never have I experienced such disappointment in a shipping company than what I’ve experienced in the last few weeks. I have over 60 preorders - waiting on 2 x boxes that were air freighted express and then lost in Sydney. I have never experienced such poor customer service from an Australian business and made to feel like my boxes were just bits of cardboard, nothing special. What have I learnt: - Nobody cares as deeply as you about your business or your brand. It’s your baby and you are attached. Emotionally, mentally. - That not every business prioritises customer service 🤯 It WILL always be a priority for me. My customers will be treated with utmost courtesy and respect. - Some things are out of my control and I need to learn to be at peace with that - very hard for my personality type! - Loosing profit, time, energy is sometimes the outcome but I’ll never compromise brand integrity and values. - Customers come and go. It’s okay to let some go in the situation (via a refund) if they choose. I can only hope they come back in the future. This week I have offered options. I’ve been packing half orders, refunding some and sitting in deep gratitude for all those customers who are patiently waiting until March with me. Moving on, looking forward and getting excited for 2026 again 🥰 #smallbizmusings #smallbizishard #relyingonotherssuckssometimes
