Decoding helps kids read words faster and in much easier way and they don’t need to memorize at all. ‘ai’ and ‘ay’ both make long a sound but ‘ai’ always comes in the middle of a word as no English word ends with i whereas ay always comes at the end of the word. When decoding words in reading, children can struggle when they have to blend more than 2 sounds in words. Successive blending is when you get your child to blend the first two sounds and then stretch out that vowel sound until they reach the last sound.🙆‍♀️ 👂This helps them to hear that important vowel sound in the middle and connect them all together👍🏻🎉

Help kids memorize sight words 10X faster with just two simple tweaks: 1️⃣ Sort your sight words by phonics skills so students can focus on just one spelling pattern at a time. For instance, practice all of your short A words like AND, AM, and CAN when you’re teaching your short A phonics lessons. Then work on TH words like THAN, THIS, and THAT when you’re working on that digraph. Focus = Faster Learning 2️⃣ Trade your sight word flashcards (which rely on students’ VISUAL memory) for sound maps (which help kids connect the word’s SOUNDS to the letters used to spell them). Humans have a natural superpower for spoken language so we can use that strength to help brains connect the dots more quickly. This is just the tip of the iceberg to the quick & simple research-based tweaks that make it soooo much easier for kids to learn how to read.
