High notes aren’t magic. They’re trained! ⬇️ Learning how to sing high notes with ease, freedom, and beauty has been a lifelong process. Unfortunately, there isn’t just “one simple trick” that I can give to my students to magically solidify their vocal technique with flawless high notes. Effortless-sounding high notes are a combination of balanced breath pressure, proper vowel shape, releasing muscles around the throat and jaw, and most importantly, trust in technique (trust that I’ve built over many years!). Our thoughts play a significant role in our approach to singing, and training your thoughts to be helpful rather than hindering is critical. 🔑 Don’t fear high notes. That’s my biggest tip. You absolutely can figure them out. But you must try, even if it’s scary, knowing that all the imperfect high notes you attempt along the way lead directly to singing your high notes the way you’ve always wanted to. ❤️ #soprano #opera #belcanto #vocaltechnique #operasingersofinstagram

This could look like more casual vowel pronunciation, singing less loud, using both straight tone and vibrato. •Story telling is the higher priority over the beauty of your sound. In modern musical theater you are mic’d, so we have the option to paint vulnerable circumstances with many different vocal colors that don’t have squillo. •Singing musical theater isn’t just suddenly singing through your nose…you can make a variety of bright and contemporary sounds without over-balancing nasality! A lot of this I learned through time and experience, and of course with @vocalhealthskb . Shoutout to @laurahenrystudio for teaching an acting technique that made me confident as an actor so that I could learn to prioritize vulnerability, circumstance, objective, and my POVs over trying to sound perfect. #phantomoftheopera #phantom #christinedaae #musicaltheatre #opera #voicecoach #singing #singer #soprano

Onset + Breath = 🔥 . One of the things I love most about this whole opera journey is the process. Seriously. I used to be the person thinking, “I should be singing there, winning that competition, signing with that agency — and probably wearing a cape while I do it.” Now I just ask: what can I actually control? If it’s outside my circle — laisse tomber, as the French (and my inner dramatic soprano) would say. . What I can control is my reaction to it all. Am I practising? Am I working on my craft? Am I showing up, even on the days when it’s hard or I sound like a baby walrus in vocal rehab? That’s where accountability comes in. I don’t want or need to blame anyone else — it’s about owning my process, my effort, my growth. . Opera’s a long game, and the more I focus on what’s in my hands — my voice, my mindset, my work — the more joy I find in the journey itself. The rest? Laisse tomber. . Lately, I’ve had a bit more time to dig into the technical stuff — breath, placement, resonance — and honestly? It’s kind of thrilling. Like an athlete discovering a new muscle… except our gym is our larynx and our dumbbells are vowels. . We can’t expect to hit new personal bests without training — vocal cords don’t magically bench-press high B’s. But the beauty of opera is that it’s a lifelong sport. You never really “finish” learning; you just keep finding new ways to sound a little less like a dying walrus and a little more like Pavarotti or my mate Freddie! . And honestly, that process — the daily grind, the breakthroughs, the laughter when things sound ridiculous — that’s where the real joy lives. 1. I lost my top (high notes) for a period of time in my 20s while going through a difficult chapter in my personal life. It seriously impacted my confidence and since then, high notes have scared me. I’m a high soprano, and I’ve carried a lot of shame around that over the years. But I choose to be brave and go for them. They keep me humble and aligned—both personally and technically. 2. I still deal with performance anxiety. (In fact, it’s increased as my career has grown and the stakes have risen.) That said, my ability to cope has grown too. It’s taken a TON of personal work, but I now know how to soothe my nervous system. I’m more resilient than ever. 3. Time on the road is hard for me. I get lonely. That’s why I got my dog—he’s been a life changer for my mental health- routine and companionship. 4. I sometimes feel jealous of other singers. Especially sopranos—of their talent, their success, or what seems like their ease or happiness in this career. (We never really know what someone is carrying behind the screen.) But I’ve gotten a lot better at leaning into solidarity over comparison—at celebrating, not competing. We truly are ALL in this together. ❤️ The work behind the scenes is real. 🙏🏻 And so is the joy, the courage, the growth, and the deep love for the art. 📕 I wrote a book about all that lives behind the curtain for us extraordinary singers and artists that I’m so excited to share with you. 🥰Here’s to being honest about it all.

2026 is the year of trying things you’ll never sing on stage just… because you never thought you’d have those notes and it’s fun to try new things 😂 In all seriousness though, my being pregnant last year has *definitely* given me some new top notes which is fascinating to me! As well as that, I have been training my voice and body consistently to see what’s possible. I have had my fair share of voice issues over the years and rethinking how I view and use my body when I sing has helped me hugely. The engagement needed through all sides of the ribcage to stabilise the larynx and maintain an open throat in this register is something else.. BUT.. we also need to make sure everything is working smoothly at the level of the vocal cords.. it’s a two way street (and a constant work in progress)🙃 I pride myself on being able to articulate and teach this kind of ‘support’ because I had to do it for myself as well and it opened up everything💪 As a singer, I do this so I can sing whatever I want for years to come 🤗 And as a vocal health coach, I want every voice pro I see to have the choice to sing whatever they want, however they want and to know if IS possible to recover from structural and functional voice issues with the right support🙌 What will you be singing this year just because you can?
