Okay first… I didn’t suddenly become a topper overnight 😌 I was just tired of staring at the same book for 3 hours and still feeling guilty. So I changed the way I study. Instead of reading everything line by line like a “perfect student” 🥲 I started reading like a “smart student” 🧠✨ I gave each chapter 10 minutes ⏱️ Timer on. Phone away. Airplane mode. No excuses. 🚫📱 In those 10 minutes I only: Read headings 📝 Understood the main idea 💡 Checked diagrams & flowcharts 📊 Noticed important terms ⭐ Looked at PYQs 👀 That’s it. No over-highlighting 🎨 No re-reading the same line 5 times 😭 No trying to be perfect. After 10 minutes, I closed the book and asked myself: “Okay… what was this chapter actually about?” 🤔 If I could explain it in simple words — done ✅ If not — 2-minute quick revision 🔁 And then I moved on. Here’s the honest truth 💭 You can’t memorize 5 chapters in one hour. But you can: ✔ Remove the fear ✔ Understand the basics ✔ Build a strong base for revision And sometimes… that’s the real win 🥹✨ Because once fear is gone, studying feels lighter. As a senior I am definitely feeling this big time, so I’ve had to be strategic when approaching my assignments. Below are some of my favorite tips ⬇️ Leave the sanctuary, get out of your room, and go to a productive environment 📚 (Personally I love the quiet study area in the library because no one bothers you and everyone else is productive so that basically forces you to be)👀 2. Put that gosh darn phone away 📵 (Ironic since I had mine out I know, but seriously, it’s causing more harm than good. Get rid of the distraction. THIS GOES FOR TXTING ON A MAC TOO, STOP IT) 🛑 3. Halve your tasks/stressors by writing them down ✍️ (I like to write little sticky notes throughout the day of tasks I intend to get done. I swear it’ll motivate you to want to cross things off the list. I studied 6–8 hours a day. My grades? Still average. Until I realized: I wasn’t learning. I was transcribing. Your brain is not a printer. If your pen is moving the whole class, your brain isn’t. Write less. Way less. Force yourself to listen. Force yourself to think. If you’re busy writing, you’re not processing. Learning happens in the head, not on paper. Close the laptop. Typing turns lectures into subtitles. Hand-draw messy connections instead. Arrows. Circles. Random links. It doesn’t have to look smart. It has to make sense to you. Preview before class. 20 minutes. Not to understand. Just to recognize. When the professor talks, your brain goes: “Oh I’ve seen this before.” And connections become effortless. You’re not a bad student.
