ELDOA #6. Here’s a different take on your traditional static “touch your toes” stretch that most athletic drones are doing. Learn to move with purpose. Here’s what you need to know... . 1. One leg straight, internally rotating from hip (big toe to touch inner knee), other leg slightly bent and relaxed 2. Stay tall rotate using thoracic spine (as much as body will allow) 3. Hands cocked (move as if someone were pulling your hands while attempting to stay tall, find the balance) 4. Tuck chin 5. Breath into belly . I don’t make it a point to “static stretch”. Ironically, through active postures, I’ve found HUGE improvements in my hip mobility and flexibility as a result. There’s still so much to be learned, still so much I’m exploring, but there is something to be said about this ELDOA practice. I’ve found a lot of value in it. I know for most of you this looks strange and I’m assuming most of you know nothing about it. Yes that’s all very nice.👍🏽 But what we need to do is spread that tension AEAP (as evenly as possible) through our body wide support suit called our fascia. What creates most of the things that cause us grief and pain is when certain areas of the body have too much constriction and other areas are limp. I call it 🪨 boulders and wet Kleenex . It drives your brain 🧠 batty. There’s too much contrast. Like meditation teacher Pema Chodrin said…not too tight and not too loose. Class #1 - An intro to the practice followed by the osteo-articular warm up we’ll use before every subsequent class in the series. Class #2 - We focus on specific junctions in the spine: L4/5 T8/9, T6/7, C4/5, and L5/S1 These are the classes we’ll focus on next week in the Detour Virtual Studio. I’m not asking if ELDOA works, because it clearly does. What I’ve never been able to ascertain is the methodology, the exact thought process, the clinical construct that led the first person to say this position is T10 T11, and not something else. And why does changing my arm from this position to this position shift which joint is being affected, which I do believe happens.
