Thank you everyone for coming to the opening of my first solo exhibition. I never imagined I would have a solo exhibition when I first began my studies. I would like to sincerely thank Strathfield Council for selecting my work and giving me the opportunity to showcase it. I'm also very grateful for all the professional support and help throughout the process. This exhibition reflects a year of hard work, learning and persistence. This journey began with a simple idea - to study and understand art. The artworks themselves grew from my curiosity about where textile come from and from my passion for making things with my hands. I'm glad that so many people are interested in the yarn making process using traditional spinning tools. Thank you to all my lectures and friends for your support. Your encouragement gave me so much strength during the time I studied alone in Sydney. You are more than just teachers and friends to me! Thank you (again!!) to everyone who sent me photos as a flashback, I completely forgot to take any photos of the exhibition myself!!! .

Since coming back from holiday I’m really focused on this next range of silk and paper woven pictures. All sorts of different colours are appearing on this length of silk warp which I hand-dyed before I went away. So it’s a lovely surprise to see the colours coming through. Several of these pieces incorporate @carolinesoer gel printed paper elements and some are my collaboration with @manda.beeching incorporating her wonderful original paintings (I’ll show you more when they’re finished!) So you’ll find me at my loom busily working towards the body of work for my exhibition here at @walfordmill which opens 29th July and runs all through August. We’re open Wednesdays to Saturdays 10am-5pm and Sundays 11am-4pm (closed to the public every Monday and Tuesday) FLOOD UPDATE: we are OPEN, but some of the building is out of bounds as we dry out and the lift up to my mezzanine studio is currently out of action due to the electrics. @littlepickleatthemill is fully open too! February hasn’t even started yet and already February is crazy. Coming this week I am participating in @brit_coburn’s Solo Show at Mercer Univeristy “Guilty Pleasures” with our new collaboration called “Interact->React”. I am opening my own Solo Show at Mercer in the Plunket Gallery, called “Krista Voto: A Look into Nature, Femininity, Form and Shadow.” Where I get to give my first University artist talk thanks to @hipjohnny. My ridiculously talented friend @nylainahdenee @sculpted4greatness is Opening her MFA thesis show. And my month will end in another solo show @empireartsgallery called “Living Threads” coming February 28th. I am so grateful to be surrounded by this amazing community of artists and to be literally living my dreams of being a working creator.
