Less plastic = higher fertility🤰 As an environmentalist, I am already pretty good about limiting my plastic use to protect the planet. We don’t use plastic cutting boards, we use reusable produce bags, we thrift the majority of our clothing and we use every organic product possible. But after watching The Plastic Detox on @netflix, I learned that even with all of those positive behaviors, there are still hidden microplastics and petrochemicals that are negatively affecting our health and fertility. @drshannahswan is a leading expert in fertility whose research has shown how much plastic and petrochemicals can impact fertility and the health of the baby. Everything from fragrances to skincare to gardening gloves can impact things like sperm count + quality and inflammatory issues like endometriosis. The key is being able to measure your exposure and identify the main culprits. To do this, I used the @million_marker test to determine how much exposure we currently have to BPA, phthalates, parabens and other toxic chemicals. I simply peed in a cup, sent in my sample and then shared all of the products and brands we use in the home. Once I get the results, I’ll report back to share what our numbers look like and what changes we still need to make to further detoxify our home from plastic. Because you can’t make perfect choices in an imperfect system…🌎 (scroll down for recipe from @nourishing.amy 🍜) Trying this Sun-Dried Tomato Beans and Roasted Aubergine today for episode one of my Diary of an Imperfect Environmentalist 🌱 I still eat meat, I don’t do Veganuary, but every January I try a few veggie and vegan meals I might actually keep cooking through the year. Because you can’t make perfect choices in an imperfect system. But you can make better ones. Even just cutting meat down to around half your meals can reduce the carbon footprint of your diet by about 25 to 30 percent. That’s without giving it up completely. Small, realistic changes really do add up. Here’s what I made today if you want to try it too: Sun-Dried Tomato Beans and Roasted Aubergine Ingredients 1 aubergine 1 tin butter beans, drained 1 tin chopped tomatoes 3 to 4 sun-dried tomatoes, chopped 2 cloves garlic, minced 1 small onion, finely chopped 1 tsp smoked paprika 1 tsp dried oregano or thyme Salt and black pepper Olive oil Optional: chilli flakes, fresh basil or parsley to serve Method Preheat your oven to 200CC. Chop the aubergine into cubes, toss with a little olive oil, salt and pepper, and roast for 25 to 30 minutes until golden and soft. While that cooks, heat a pan with a splash of olive oil. Add the onion and cook until soft, then add the garlic and cook for another minute. Stir in the chopped sun-dried tomatoes, smoked paprika and herbs. Add the chopped tomatoes and butter beans. Simmer for 10 to 15 minutes until thick and saucy. Fold in the roasted aubergine, taste and season, and top with herbs or chilli if you like. Creamy, comforting and high in protein, which means it might actually make it into my regular dinner rotation. Save this if you want to try it, and follow along for more honest, imperfect environmentalism 💚 #DiaryOfAnImperfectEnvironmentalist #PlantForward #Flexitarian #Veganuary #ClimateConsciousCooking

Getting a little something off my chest as we head into 2026… (I cut the rant at the start short and tried to stay on topic - sorry, bear with me 😬) I’ve been thinking a lot about how we talk about climate and conservation – and who gets to feel like they belong in the conversation. Perfection has never been the point. Progress, pressure, and participation are. I don’t believe guilt or shame build movements. I believe people do. Especially when they feel welcomed, trusted, and heard. These thoughts have been inspired by reflections from @carolinegleich, who has been a thoughtful voice in this space for a long time. Credit where it’s due. And lastly- thank you. So much. For being here, listening, for questioning and caring in the ways you can, wherever you are (which I’d love to know, if you want to tell me below.
