IAThis week we headed to Bestwood Village @parkrunuk, where we took on the Bestwood Beast, celebrated Lara completing 100 pakruns and rode the Nottingham trams.

With flooding changing our plans to do the new Holme Pierrepoint parkrun we decided to head to another Nottingham parkrun, Bestwood Village. With frosty conditions forecast, the trail terrain promised the best bet on not being cancelled! As we listened to the first-timer’s briefing, we discovered we would be facing “The Beast,” a 25% gradient climb halfway round, with plenty more “undulations” on the route.
Once we got running, it wasn’t just the climbs and cold air taking our breath away, but the beautiful views as we ran through woodland and looked out over fields. Every now and then, you’d catch a glimpse of the restored pit-head, which marks the start and finish of the course.
We conquered the beast. Once done, you get to enjoy some nice steady downhill for a while before a little rise just before the finish. Iona and Lara had walked the course, and for Lara it was an extra special finish, her 100th parkrun completion, congrats Lara.
Though there is a community-run cafe right at the finish, it didn’t do fried breakfast options (though it does do soup and a lovely range of cakes), so we headed for the nearby @riseparkcafe, an excellent find by Ewan with a great range of breakfast options.
Post breakfast, we decided to test out Nottingham’s trams, riding into the centre for a little explore before we headed back out and home.

ORA fabulous weekend of Orienteering, with Trail running at Cwm y Rhaeadr on Saturday - some great route choices saw Ake take the win on the 10km and a sprint for the finish saw Anthony pip Margaret to top spot on the 5km, and young Freja had fun skipping round the 2km.
Huge thanks to Diana for her help with the event as well as setting and collecting controls.
On Saturday evening many SBOCers took part in the British Night Champs, a fantastic run by Megan saw her take🥇 on the W21 and Vince had a stormer to take 🥈 on the M18. Top 6 finishes for the others who went too.
Sunday saw many SBOCers head to Llantrisant for the SWOC event. Great running from Robin saw him win the Blue by nearly 15 minutes, and no heavy legs for Margaret as she snook into first place on the Green. Great running from Phil, Sam and Niall as well, who all came in the top 4.
