This happens to me from time to time, and it’s a great way to test the eggs especially if you’re in the middle of making a recipe 🙈🙃 Here is how to perform this floating egg test. Gently place your egg into a bowl of water. If the egg sinks, it is fresh. If it tilts upwards or even floats, it is old. This happens because as eggs age, the small air pockets inside it grow larger as water is released and replaced by air. If the air pocket becomes large enough, the egg may float. **Please keep in mind that by cracking an egg open, sniffing it, and checking for discoloration is a really precise method of determining freshness.
