Honored to receive wisdom from my friend and elder Anderson Kee. Navajo artist and actor you may know from Dark Winds in support of the Oki Language Project. When Indigenous artists share their voice, they strengthen the circle. Language is identity. It’s story. It’s sovereignty. It’s future generations speaking with confidence. #OkiLanguageProject #LanguageRevival IndigenousVoice #airstreampartner

Cherokee elder Mack Vann’s story, featured in Season 1 of OsiyoTV, reminds us why saving our language matters. Vann has passed away since his story aired but his life and message continue to reflect the deep connection between language, culture and community, as well as what is at risk when a language fades. Language is more than words. It carries history, identity and culture. When a language is lost, a part of that culture is lost forever. The segment highlights individuals committed to Cherokee language preservation a decade ago — a commitment that is still present and strong in Cherokee Nation today. What does it feel like to close your eyes and only listen to a film? We invite you to try it today. “WASKA: The Forest is My Family” feels like bathing in a forest. It honors co-director Nina Gualinga’s grandfather, a leader who had a deep relationship with the powerful--and coveted--plant medicine Hayakwaska. Gualinga explains that the film “invites us to collectively question the ways in which we seek to heal ourselves, so that we don’t perpetuate the legacy of extractivism.” What does it feel like to just listen to this film? We invite you to try. KANKYE - Conjure Film Festival Our time has finally come.. When we released our first documentary film AMARUKAFO ADEBISA: African-American Ancestral Divination we won the award for Best Original Documentary at the Kwanzaa Film Festival in New York. Our film was also featured at the Pembroke Taparelli Arts and Film Festival in Los Angeles, CA. We decided then to host our own film festival, KANKYE - Conjure Film Festival. As we planned our first festival the world-wide pandemic hit. Because of covid restrictions, all movie theaters and large venues were subsequently shut down for the next two years. After that period we produced our second documentary film - HOODOO: Akan Ancestral Religion in North America. We planned to host KANKYE then (2023). However, it was not the right time. We are now working on our third documentary film - Part 2 of our HOODOO Film Trilogy to be released this year. We would later find out why it was premature. It was because In the midst of filming this new documentary the SINNERS film was released. As a result of its widespread success and acclaim, Hoodoo and Conjure has now been pushed to the forefront of the consciousness of our people. The Sinners film is currently nominated for 16 academy awards which is a record. The conjure film genre, a genre that we created, is now a genre that our people have a fully vested interest in culturally. Moreover, with the upcoming release of our third documentary we will have released three films in the new conjure film genre - enough to host a full festival. Yet, we will also have more than just our films being screened at KANKYE. It is now the perfect time to launch our KANKYE - Conjure Film Festival. This will be an annual festival in November in Washington, DC. We will screen films in the conjure film genre and are now accepting entries from Black filmmakers. We need the support of the community to make this new film festival happen.. Learn more about the conjure film genre on our page.. All who contribute $15 or more receive one or more tickets to the film festival. Contribute now and yeda ase (we thank you).. www.fundrazr.com/kankyefilms

Reclaiming Indigenous Knowledge— What gets lost when traditional knowledge is "translated" into Western terms? Indigenous wisdom deserves to be spoken and understood on its own terms. Many researchers have tried to interpret Indigenous science through Western frameworks, but what if we let Indigenous languages and stories speak for themselves? This isn’t just about preservation—it's about revitalization and evolution. It’s a reminder that great storytelling happens when we honor the source, not just reinterpret it. Unforgettable evening of Community of more than 200 of us came together to elevate the screening of The Spirit of Tatá, and the warmth, presence, and heartfelt response in the room made it an unforgettable night. It was not just a film screening — it was a gathering, a remembrance, and a moment of shared reverence. After ten years of dedication, learning, and deep connection, seeing this story received with such care and openness was profoundly moving for all of us. Your presence helped create a space that honored Tatá’s teachings and the resilience, wisdom, and spirit of the Yawanawá community. This film was always meant to be more than something to watch. It is a bridge — a way to carry forward stories, traditions, and the message of connection, care for the Earth, and respect for ancestral wisdom. By being there, you became part of that bridge. We invite you to stay connected as this journey continues. Please consider following @sofiefoundation on Instagram to learn about future screenings, upcoming gatherings, and opportunities to stream the film online when distribution becomes available. You’ll also find updates about the other projects the foundation is supporting — all rooted in cultural preservation, education, and honoring Indigenous voices and traditions. The SOFIE Foundation was created from a simple but powerful intention: to support the sharing of wisdom, protect cultural knowledge, and help create pathways where stories like this can be seen, heard, and sustained for generations to come. The Spirit of Tatá is one expression of that mission, and your presence helped give it life in the world. We hope you left feeling inspired, connected, and honored to have been part of this first step. We certainly feel honored to have shared that space with you. With deep gratitude for your presence, your openness, and your support Video by our events manager @alexandraiulianac The Spirit of Tatá Team SOFIEFoundation.org. #spiritoftatá #spiritoftata #indigenouswisdom #amazonforest #sacredknowledge
