Dysphagia is a medical term for difficulty swallowing. Dysphagia can be a painful condition. In some cases, swallowing is impossible. Occasional difficulty swallowing, such as when you eat too fast or don't chew your food well enough, usually isn't cause for concern. This Common Symptom Can Turn Deadly if Ignored 🚨❌ Doctor Explains Why Many people ignore chronic heartburn or acid reflux, assuming it’s just a normal digestive issue. But persistent reflux can damage the lining of your esophagus — and in some cases, progress to a serious condition known as esophageal cancer. 👉 Follow @doctor.sethi for clear, science-based advice on gut health, digestion, and disease prevention. #Heartburn #GERD #acidreflux #drsethi

A bitter taste in your mouth after eating greasy or fatty food is quite common and it usually happens for a few possible reasons: 1. Bile reflux 🫢 Greasy food triggers bile (a digestive fluid made by the liver) to help digest fats. Sometimes, bile can flow backward from the small intestine into the stomach or even up into the throat/mouth. This backflow gives a bitter or sour taste, different from acid reflux (which is more burning or acidic). 2. Indigestion or slow digestion 🧈 Fatty foods take longer to digest. This can cause a feeling of heaviness, bloating, and a lingering bitter taste as your digestive system struggles to process the excess fat. 3. Poor oral hygiene or dehydration 🦷💧 Grease can coat the tongue, and without proper cleaning or hydration, it mixes with bacteria or saliva changes leading to a bitter or metallic taste. 4. Gallbladder or liver issues ⚕️ If this happens often, it might signal a gallbladder problem (like gallstones or sluggish bile flow), since those affect fat digestion and can cause bitterness after fatty meals. 🩺 What you can do: Drink warm water or green tea after eating (helps digestion). Avoid very oily, spicy, or fried food at night. Brush and rinse your mouth well after meals. If it happens frequently, consider a checkup for acid/bile reflux or gallbladder health. ⚠️ From Acidity to Esophagectomy — The Full Truth No One Tells You It always starts small — mild heartburn after meals, that burning in the chest you ignore, or the antacid that “instantly works.” But chronic reflux (GERD) is not harmless. It’s a slow acid injury that rewires your cells. Let’s break it down 👇 Step 1 – GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease): When your stomach acid (HCl, pH 1.5–3.5) repeatedly escapes upwards, it burns your esophagus. This happens when your LES (Lower Esophageal Sphincter) pressure drops below 10 mmHg — often due to caffeine, obesity, hiatal hernia, or stress. Step 2 – Barrett’s Esophagus: To protect itself from acid, your esophagus mutates — replacing its normal flat squamous cells with columnar intestinal-type cells. That’s called metaplasia, a defense gone wrong. It’s literally your esophagus trying to grow a “stomach lining” where it doesn’t belong. Step 3 – Dysplasia → Adenocarcinoma: Years of acid + bile exposure trigger inflammation, DNA damage, and mutations in genes like p53 and p16. That’s when Barrett’s turns precancerous. Unchecked, this leads to esophageal adenocarcinoma — requiring esophagectomy (surgical removal of the esophagus). Medicine View GERD = Inflammation × Pressure × Exposure ÷ LES Strength So to reverse it, you must lower inflammation, reduce pressure, and strengthen LES tone — not just suppress acid.

Yes! Most gut issues begin because of a lack of stomach acid! 🌸Stomach acid is responsible for breaking down food, triggering the release of digestive enzymes for further breakdown of food and also for killing up pathogens that enter alongwith food. 🌸Now if stomach acid isn’t released in the right amounts, it will affect all of the above. 👇 Food isn’t digested well, stays stagnant in the gut, ferments, produces gases and some damage the gut lining. 👇 This leads to bloating, burping, flatulence, constipation, acid reflux, abdominal pain, heartburn, and in extreme cases SIBO, etc. 🌸That is why, taking a probiotic doesn’t help you because you are treating the wrong place in the gut. 🌸Now how to ensure your stomach acid is secreted well?👇👇 1. Eat at the same time everyday 2. Take a few deep breaths before eating + smell your food. This triggers stomach acid secretion. 3. Apple cider vinegar is a great supplement. 4. Bitter herbs can be taken before a meal - dandelion greens, ginger, etc. 5. Supplements especially zinc is crucial for HCL formation. Make sure you have enough of it. 6. Don’t drink water just before or after a meal. Note : If your digestive issues are chronic, please consult a health coach. #digestionsupport #digestiveissues #digestion

⚠️ Your body has been screaming at you through smell. You just thought it was normal. Most people ignore unusual odors — bad breath, strange stool, body smells. They think it's diet, stress, or "just getting older." But your body doesn't create smells randomly. Every odor is a chemical signature of what's breaking down inside. When you eat, food is broken down in the mouth and travels down the esophagus to the stomach, where it’s mixed with acids and enzymes. It then moves to the small intestine, where most nutrients are absorbed. The leftover waste goes to the large intestine, water is absorbed, and the rest is passed out. Did you know that reflux isn’t just about heartburn? While classic symptoms like heartburn and regurgitation are common, reflux can also trigger extraesophageal symptoms. This means you might experience chest pain, throat pain, hoarseness, or even a lingering cough—all without any heartburn at all. 🧐 To investigate, we use a test called ambulatory pH testing. This test measures the acid levels in your esophagus over a 24-hour period, giving us a clear picture of when reflux is happening. It’s a helpful tool to understand how reflux may be affecting you, even if you aren’t feeling that classic burn. 🔥 #gerd #reflux #ibsdiet #ibsawareness #ibsfriendly #ppi #protonpumpinhibitors #weight #hiatalhernia #lpr #laryngopharyngealreflux
