Rest for 1-2 minutes between repeats. Aim for 4-8 intervals per session. - 10k: run 800m to 1,200m intervals at your current 5k race pace. Take 2-3 minutes of rest between each interval. Complete 4-6 intervals per session. - Half Marathon: run 1,000m to 1,600m intervals at your current 10k race pace. Rest for 3-4 minutes between intervals. Calling all cardio queens!! . This is the answer to cardio in your 40s! Sprint interval training!! . All of that cardio we did in our 20s and 30s will backfire on us in our 40s and beyond. In perimenopause levels of cortisol rise. This sets us up to store belly fat which produces more inflammation and stress. Deep belly fat, has about four times as many cortisol receptors as the regular fat that sits underneath your skin. The Michigan ⚡️ 1km @ Tempo Pace 1.2km @ your goal 10km pace 1km @ Tempo Pace 800m @ 5km Pace 1km @ Tempo Pace 400m all out It’s a great workout because it combines both Tempo & interval running in one workout. This teaches you to shift gears & feel the effects of race day. 2. The Long Run (Spicy) 🌶️ 15km+ of running Every 2km run @ your goal 10km pace for 1km Your legs need to get use to endurance. Running 10km fast requires a lot of endurance & by putting a 1km at race pace every 2km allows you to feel what it will be like. 3. 800x800 (Elite) 🫁 I think I created one of the greatest interval runs. 8x 800m @ your goal 10km pace 800m @ 1 minute per km slower This over 12km of brutality. You can’t rest, it’s constant work for these 8 rounds. If you can complete this workout you can hit your 10km PB. This is a great way to improve your cardiovascular health whilst tapping into your fast twitch fibres, which all pro/aspiring footballers/athletes must do. You don’t want to hinder your fast twitch fibres, you have to use them. The energy you will burn & the intensity of your work will reap better results than constantly walking/jogging or stepping up a stepper. Don’t waste all your time doing long duration cardio, taking 30-40 mins at a time. Switch it up & include interval sprints.
