DE💐 From sketching to cutting to inking and printing, @jr__illustration (Jamie Richards) does each phase of his intricate lino-cutting process by hand. Drawing inspiration from the vibrant world around him, he focuses on floral and botanical themes using minimal, pared-back color palettes to let his interpretation of the natural world shine. To create his linocut works, Jamie begins by sketching out a real-life subject. Then, bit by bit, he carves out the shape of his original sketch onto linoleum plates—which he inks and prints in his home studio. ✍️

HA“Robin & Corgeous” 🐕 🐦
Building on our Robin and Raven print, we’ve combined it with a design we created over a year ago of our wonderful and inspirational corgi, Gatsby.
This piece took time to create and set up, using just two registration boards, six colours, four blocks and printed on a press. The alignment is brought together in the final key block, with the last layer of black connecting all the other elements.
The tiny triangle of red subtly contrasts with the orange of the robin’s breast. Every decision affects the overall image. We initially played with the idea of the robin and the T-shirt being the same colour, but they blended too much and the balance wasn’t quite right.
These small decisions and adjustments are why we keep coming back to multi-block linocuts. 🐶
