USE YOUR VOICE, people will most certainly be in the way, if you are moving with speed let the people in front know to get out of the way, if they don’t then charge like a rhino around them. 2. Corners are for SWINGING. You will lose all of your momentum on the corners due to having to turn… use the kettlebell weights to your advantage and swing them around the corner to carry some momentum. 3. High cadence baby steps - Holding 48kg you are not going to be able to run like a marathon runner… your legs should be moving as quick as they can go. 4. DO NOT DROP THE WEIGHTS - Trust me, I know how much it burns, but the quicker you go the quicker it’s over. 5. ✨3 things you can do in your marathon training to run a strong and enjoyable 20 miler✨ 💾SAVE and SHARE these tips for yourself or with a runner you know 💪🏼 1) FUELING PROPERLY - work with a sports RDN to see what YOUR body needs ⛽️ ✨my favorite fueling I used for my 20 miler today: Dried mango 🥭 Honey 🍯 Nerd clusters and gummies 🍬 Clif caffeinated energy chews 2) STRENGTH TRAIN/PLYOMETRICS- lift the weights and do plyos at least 2x a week 🏋🏻‍♀️ 3) Respect the rest day - a whole MFing rest day. Not a let me get 10k steps in. Full stop. You NEED an entire rest day as a marathon runner 🏃🏻‍♀️

Im old and slow, my muscles don’t function like they used to. ‘Im older now, and so my muscles require more stimulus, to remain strong like they used to be. ‘ Why is that? ah it’s just old age my friend and sprinting is for young bucks. You get to an age, or you become a marathon runner and decide your days of running fast are behind you. Then the muscles do in fact age, and they age because you stopped working them, and not by chance or time. There is no reason why you can’t get faster as you age, and then certainly maintain your pace, but most people simply don’t work on it. Do an easy run, decent warm up, drills, activation type stuff, get those muscles firing, and then progress into a quicker run. Be sensible, don’t go mental week one and think of this as a 5-6 week project. 2 x per week, good warm up, and get those we peg legs moving again. 10-15 secs faster run, uphill if needs be for lower injury risk, and then take 45-60 seconds break. When we drove into the car park this morning, Rio shouted excitedly: “Yay, RACING! Exciting!” … his biggest smile beaming! It was The Dubai Mall’s Race Event Day - buzzing with 600+ runners, free entry, a brilliant atmosphere, well organised and such a great way for the community to stay fit and active this summer. 💚 | Rio was honoured to be joined by our friend @jessicasmith27 - Paralympic swimmer, marathon runner, author, speaker, and disability accessibility advisor. This was real teamwork in action - Nick, Jessica and Rio completed the 5km ‘together’ - with Nick and Jessica taking turns on laps pushing Rio’s racing chair. Jessica pushed Rio across the finish line, where he crossed with his trademark big smile. Inclusive racing is always where Rio is his happiest! I train to respect my body, not to punish it. 2️⃣ I eat like an adult with responsibilities Protein every meal. I weigh 125 pounds/56 kilos. So, 90-110 grams of protein everyday. Carbs are my source of energy for running. And fats to keep my hormones in check. I don’t eat less, I eat better and consistently. 3️⃣ I protect my sleep I’m strict about this. Nothing can come between me and my sleep. Cos no supplement beats 7–8 hours of sleep. Hormones, hunger cues, recovery, mind, -everything works better when I’m rested. And this is true for anyone who considers themselves human. 4️⃣ I don’t snack out of stress If I’m tired, I rest. If I’m overwhelmed, I walk or run or journal. Food isn’t my coping mechanism. 5️⃣ I lift heavy Muscle keeps me lean, strong, and resilient. I’m 41 and I’m not interested in shrinking myself. I want to be a capable grandma running marathons in her 90s. The goal is to kick ass, not stay small. 6️⃣ I repeat boring things consistently Same breakfasts. Same grocery staples. Same workout structure.I got no time to waste on decision fatigue. And I’m not guessing what needs to be done. Things go in my calendar and they get done. 7️⃣ I play the long game No 21-day resets. No “back on track Monday.” 75 hard or easy or whatever. Focus on what I can sustain at 41, as a working mom, choosing staying fit as a lifestyle. No dieting. No extremes. Cos they don’t work and are not sustainable. Not for me, not for anyone. I got systems. During 2026 Chongqing Wanzhou Marathon a race official in China stopped a marathon runner(winner)from crossing the finish line after mistaking him for a half-marathon competitor. The marathon organisers said that the incident did not substantially affect Sheng’s results, allowing him to set a personal best of 2:23:53. Wanzhou Marathon is certified A1-rated event in it's fourth iteration The official was subsequently suspended for a year from marathon events.
