There is a new digital divide emerging. Children from lower-income households are spending around 40% more time on screens than those from middle-income families. Now, with any technological innovation, we tend to assume universality. But in reality, technology doesn’t flatten hierarchies, it often reinforces them. If we are serious about upward social mobility, we need to start having conversations around… Who is using technology to enhance learning, creativity, and opportunity… and who is primarily consuming it. If we continue to frame this purely as a behavioural or parenting issue, we risk overlooking the structural implications.
