TIHow to drive the big hot tub in #moab by someone who has only done it a couple of times so they are now an internet expert. Step 1. Select the proper gear, in my case I start in 2nd gear as 1st gear can be excessively rowdy and I didn’t want rowdy just yet. Think of 2nd gear as a form of traction control and wheelie mitigation. Step 2. Smash gas, but not all the way, and not for long, you just want to feel things out and see if you carried enough momentum through the transition from the bottom to the middle to initiate step 3 of the plan. It took a couple tries before I was happy with steps 1 and 2 and went for step 3. Step 3 is to remain calm by smashing the gas if you feel confident in the direction you are facing, your position on the climb, and the fact you are not pointing left… not going left is very important at this point. Step 4 varies, in this instance it consisted of me wondering how I went a little too far right, me being really happy I didn’t end up going left, and concerned that forward movement had ceased. Step 5 is a 2 part step, the first part is to select a higher gear because at this point… you are here to party. The next step is adjust the direction you are pointing to ensure your exit from the tub actually happens, and the exit is as stylish as possible. If all goes well, you are somewhere between the bottom of the tub and driving off the other side. Split the difference there for best results. And that’s it. Disclaimer- These instructions are for wet tires, using this guide when obstacle is dry may result in less than desired results. While this is what really happened, these are just semi satirical guidelines…. Don’t go yardsale your truck in there because I gave bad instructions…. 🌈 Bentonite Hills- A stunning display of colors makes this spot really special. It is nearby NASA’s Mars Desert Research Station in Hanksville
🛻 Marlboro Point- This amazing hidden gem is accessible via a 4x4 if you want to make it all the way to the point. You can opt to park around 0.4 mile away if you are more comfortable with that
🪨 Factory Butte- This otherworldly monolith is 6,300 ft or 1,920 m high and you can drive very close to it with a bit of off roading
🚘 Potash Road- Stunning drive going through a beautiful red rock canyon with massive red rock wall on one side and the Colorado River on the other
🏜️ Goblin Valley State Park- Dense hoodoos define the surreal landscape of this beautiful park. A $20 fee is required for this state park
🌘 Moon Overlook- Also called Moonscape Overlook or Skyline Rim Overlook, this spot will really make you think you’re on the moon
🐎 Dead Horse Point State Park- One of the best sunrise we have ever seen was inside this park. The warm light of the sunrise illuminates the red rocks with a striking red glow. We highly recommend a visit here
🗼 Long Dong Silver- A strikingly beautiful Spire in Hanksville, Utah. Requires ~1 mile hike to reach this spot

ADWould you drive your van down the craziest road in a national park?
📍Shafer Trail, Utah
The Shafer Trail connects the Island in the Sky District of Canyonlands National Park to Potash Road and descends 1,500’ over some very steep and tight switchbacks.
We can’t recommend driving this trail enough, but there are a few things to know:
* The road starts in Canyonlands National Park, so make sure that you have your America the Beautiful pass or pay the daily entrance fee.
* We recommend driving from the top (from Canyonlands) down to Moab. That way, you’ll get the best views of the road before you descend. If you drive it from the bottom up, you won’t really see the road till you’re at the top.
* High-clearance 4x4 is recommended for this unpaved road, especially after it rains.
* The road is open year-round, but we would personally avoid it if it was wet or covered in snow.
* It is VERY narrow in some sections. We drove it on a weekday early in the morning, and didn’t see anyone till we got closer to Moab. The earlier you can get on the trail, the less traffic.
* The whole adventure is about 40 miles and will take 2-3 hours from the top all the way down into Moab.
Save this for your next trip to Moab!
