# The Pointing Game
Maya found the finger pointer in an old box of toys. It was bright blue with a yellow tip, and when she slipped it onto her index finger, she felt an immediate rush of childish glee.
“What’s that?” her roommate Zach asked, looking up from his laptop.
“Remember these?” Maya extended her arm dramatically, pointing at the ceiling. “Finger pointers! They used to give them out at school assemblies and book fairs.”
Zach rolled his eyes, but Maya was already up and moving. The finger pointer transformed her ordinary apartment into a stage. She pointed at the houseplant. “You need water!” Then at the window. “You need cleaning!” At the refrigerator. “You need restocking!”
Each declaration made with the plastic-enhanced finger felt more authoritative than it would have otherwise. Maya found herself adopting a game show host persona, pointing at random objects and assigning them arbitrary point values.
“The lamp! Five hundred points! The coffee table! Minus three hundred! The cat! One million points!”
The cat, Luna, watched this performance with typical feline disdain until Maya pointed directly at her. Something about the bright blue finger caught Luna’s attention, and she crouched, tail swishing.
“Oh no,” Maya laughed. “I’ve activated predator mode.”
Luna pounced, batting at the plastic finger. Maya giggled and darted around the living room, trailing the pointer just out of Luna’s reach. Zach couldn’t help but join in, trying to distract Luna while Maya pointed in different directions.
By the time they collapsed on the sofa, breathless with laughter, even Zach had to admit the silly toy had created the most fun they’d had all week.
“Fine,” he said, holding out his hand. “My turn.”
