Heavy bleeding and large clots during your period are not something you should have to accept as “normal” especially when they happen regularly or come with severe pain. These symptoms are often linked to conditions like endometriosis, adenomyosis, fibroids, or other underlying issues that deserve proper evaluation. Endometriosis is frequently dismissed as “just bad periods,” which delays diagnosis and treatment for many women. If your period is disrupting your life, it deserves to be taken seriously. Being told “that just happens” is not an answer. If this sounds like your experience, save this post, share it with someone who needs to hear it, and advocate for answers. Women deserve better than being told their symptoms are normal. #endometriosis #endometriosisawareness #adenomyosis

Don’t Make the Mistakes I Made! I’m sharing my story today because I wish someone had warned me about the dangers of ignoring my body’s signs. For years, I suffered from heavy periods, not knowing they were heavy. But the truth is, I was losing 350ml of blood EVERY MONTH during my periods. I was exhausted, weak, and struggling to keep up with my daily life. But I didn’t know any better. I thought it was just part of being a woman. It wasn’t until my blood tests revealed that my iron levels hit rock bottom that I realized something was seriously wrong. I was prescribed iron medication, but when that didn’t work, my gynecologist, @avandadina, asked me if I get heavy periods. Now to me, my periods were normal, because there is no reference point, right? But because I use a menstrual cup, I started tracking my flow and realized that I was bleeding 350-400 ml every month, while the average woman should bleed just about 80 ml! Further tests revealed a thick uterine lining, which was causing heavy periods (menorrhagia and dysfunctional uterine bleeding) I had two options: contraceptive pills or an IUD (Mirena). On the advice of my doctor, I chose Mirena, which would stop the formation of the lining and eventually cease periods. So I was recently admitted to @breachcandyhospitaltrust, where my doctor performed a D&C and inserted the Mirena. Although Mirena insertion is a simple procedure for most women and can be done at a doctors clinic, I needed anasthesia and an OT as I have a tightly closed cervix. But here’s the thing: If you’re feeling exhausted and weak, don’t brush it off. If you’re experiencing heavy periods, don’t ignore it. Take control of your health, prioritise your well-being and don’t be afraid to seek help. You matter, and your health matters. Don’t wait until it’s too late. Take the first step today. Share this with more women so that they take their health seriously When was the last time you got your blood tests done? #HeavyPeriods #IronDeficiency #PCOS #Thyroid #WomenHealth #SelfCare #Empowerment #menorhagia

By now you may have seen that the British Menopause Society has introduced a new set of guidelines on unscheduled bleeding for those on HRT using micronised progesterone- like utrogestan and gepretix. There have been quite a few questions about it and a bit of confusion. Unscheduled bleeding is a term that refers to vaginal bleeding post menopause that occurs a year after the last natural menstrual period or any breakthrough bleeding on cyclical HRT or breakthrough bleeding after 6 months on continuous combined HRT/MHT. For those using oral micronised progesterone- eg utrogestan or gepretix, if the amount they are taking isn’t enough to oppose the oestrogen they’re taking they may experience this kind of bleeding and recently there has been an increase in the number of cases and investigations. It’s estimated that a only a very small number of these cases (around 10%) are of concern but they need be investigated - and this has caused pressure on the system - hence the new guidelines. In the interview, Tim Hillard explains what the guidelines mean for patients and GPs who manage these cases. The changes include ensuring adequate progesterone to control the bleeding as well as changes to referring on for investigation. Have a listen - the link is in the story or you can find it on the Menopause Research and Education Fund YouTube channel. #menopause #unexplainedbledding #unscheduledbleeding #postmenopausalbleeding #utrogestan #progesterone #hrt #mht #womenhealth #sexualhealth #endometrialcancer #bms #climacteric @climacteric_mn @internationalmenopausesociety

Today we are launching a womb cancer awareness campaign in partnership with @cancernel to help women recognise the main symptom of womb cancer. In North East London in 2018, Black and Asian women were proportionally more likely to be diagnosed with womb cancer at stage 4 (late) rather than at stage 1 (early). ‘You Need to Know’ aims to empower women who are Black, Asian or from a minority ethnic group to recognise the symptoms of womb cancer and get them checked. #YouNeedtoKnow that bleeding after the menopause is not normal. Find out more on the North East London Cancer Alliance website: nelcanceralliance.nhs.uk/youneedtoknow (which is also linked in our bio). #YouNeedToKnow #WombCancer #Menopause #PostMenopausalBleeding #EveAppeal #TheEveAppeal
